I have a 2004 southwind with the batwing ant that came with it. If I hook uo a converter I get about three stations and I am sitting about fourty miles out of chicago. The amp fot this is buildt into my switch box. But I am wondering if I were to replace the antenna with a different one that would use the same mount would it improve my reception greatly or should I save the money/ Also which antenna would you suggest I switch to?????

A couple of things...
The amp is actually inside the Batwing itself. The wall plate with the LED on it is simply the power supply for that Amp.
You could try the add on "Batwing" clip on upgrade. It's supossed to increase digital reception.

Nope, the batwing is a very good antenna. You can add the little yagi but you probably won't pull in more stations, just a better signal on the ones you get now.

Sometimes just a little "redirection" of the bat wing and another "scan" on the converter will find more stations. The bat wing is very directional.

i agree that the bat-wing works pretty good, if it is getting power....can you remove the cable going in the bat wing and check for dc voltage? that will test the power switch and the cable going to the bat-wing. then check the cable to the TV to the switch for damage and connection. after that i would think you would have to change the bat-wing. if you do there is a replacement style just for dig TV....
...on edit....to test for voltage measure from the center pin to the outside shield

You should go to this web site and enter your zip code and that will bring up all of the TV stations within range that you should be able to pick up. It also gives the direction in degrees, (need a compass) that you need to point your antenna. Your antenna receives it's best signal from the side of the batwing that is opposite the side where the Coax cable enters the batwing. So if for instance the chart says channel 3.1 is at 235 Degrees and it is 30 miles away, point the side of your antenna, using the compass, to 235 degrees and then using the Converter menu, select "Auto Scan" or "SCAN" or something that resembles those words, and let the scan run. Make sure that the TV is set to the same channel that you selected on the converter, CH 3 or CH 4. Now if the web site does not show very many channels close enough to your location, you are out of luck.. If there are many stations at different directions than the direction you are pointed to, you will have to reaim your antenna and SCAN again.
So here is the link. Good luck
Antenna web
On edit, one other thing, make sure that your TV is set to "Antenna" and not "Cable"
Here is a link to another post that has a drawing of the "front" of a batwing.

Ading the Wingman to the Batwing, will make the antenna a bit more directional. And another point is there is no such thing as a digital antenna.
