Turn of events has us free for about 10 days Christmas to New Years. Would love to go south out of Colorado Springs to find some warm weather. We would probably want to hold things to a two day drive towing our travel trailer. Would anyone have recommendations in terms of where to head and campground to use? Could probably reach parts of AZ, NM, or even Texas. Grand Canyon looks way too cold. :-) We tend to prefer natural settings - beaches, state/national parks... hook-ups not required.

TIA

Heck, come to sunny Kalifornia. December can be beautiful. We need the money.

Head South on I-25, exit South again out of Las Vegas, NM and 500 miles from Colorado Springs you will be in Alamogordo NM. Could also go to Las Cruces NM. Either one will be warmer than where you were when you departed.

We went to Tucson between Christmas and New Years a couple of years ago. Stayed at Catalina State Park and had a great time (we usually don't use hookups either, but the elec. was nice to use with a heater in our PUP). They even had some snow on the high peaks west of the park. Plenty of space between sites. Saguaro NP has different sections to visit. Didn't get there, but Karchner Caverns gets a nod from some on this forum. Based on photos of the campgrounds, I'd stay at Catalina and day trip to Karchner Caverns.

Of course another option is Big Bend.

We spend our Thanksgiving week and both weeks at Christmas (I'm a teacher) every year at Echo Bay on Lake Mead. Quiet. Full hookups. There's also southern New Mexico and southern Arizona. I'm from sunny southern California, but since we live up in the mountains, we get away in the winter.

I think the Tucson area is a great place to visit. Haven't tried it myself, but Gilbert Ray Campgroundis reported to be good.

LOTS of places here in the Tucson area but we are 840 or so miles from CO Springs. We did it the opposite way last summer in two days, stayed at Cheyenne Mtn.

Ave temps for 12/27 are 62 and 38. Would love to have you in the area and lots to do and see.

Email or PM me if you have questions and / or info on coming here.

Be safe.

Take a look at San Antonio, Tx. River Walk at Christmas is really special. About 870mi from you. I like Travelers World RV and do the Mission Trail if you ever get there.
