I have a 5.9 cummins with an electric plug in the rear of engine compartment. I know this is the engine heater, my question is does the heater warm the oil or the coolant and how long do I keep it plugged in before I use the coach.

The block heater warms the water, which keeps the whole engine warmer. As far as how long depends on ambient temp.

Typically, plugging in the block heater two to three hours before start up even on the coldest nights is sufficient.

What the ole trucker said. Unless it's extremely cold like below zero, a couple of hours is enough.

Hi Ken,
The block heater will reach "steady state" in about 3 hours--so there is no point it running it longer than that before starting the RV.
