A few months ago I read either in a magazine or online about mold on the bladders of a sleep number bed. Since we were not at home at the time we were going to look at ours when we got home. We got busy with work and other things and forgot all about it. When the pump stop working it was either buy a new pump or dump the bed.
In our RV we have a queen size Bear Bed which works the same as our sleep number and which we find more confortable, plus for home we wanted to upgrade to a King size. We called Bear Beds and ordered a new bed for home. We got the bed and while we were taking the Sleep number bed apart we were shocked at the mold that was on bladder and anything else that touched it. Now we have a King size from Bear Beds that we had made to order to fit our RV (since our rv can fit a King size) if we ever decide to go full time we can just put our King size in the rv. I am sure many sleep number beds are fine but if you have one you should check it out.

YES, YES, YES! I reported to this forum in July about the mold in our sleep number bed. It was very bad and I had been getting progressively sicker and sicker. I was about to go in for tests for lung cancer, when I accidently found out from another person in out RV park about their bed. I am very allergic to mold. It has been 4 months since we changed the bed and I am still on inhalers and coughing, but am much better. This is nothing to ignore. The upside of this is that the mold is only -they say- in mattresses from before 2005. Sleep number will replace the bladders and the foam pad that covers them, but they do not want to replace the mattress cover itself. We found mold on the mattress cover-at the top where it meets the wall -we are in a 5er. I was so ill when I talked to them they agreed to replace that too, I don't know it if was that or the fact that there is a class action suit against them just waiting to get complaints. I used the squeaky wheel approach and they really did right by us. I love the bed and am very glad it all worked out the way it did, except for the continuing cough!

Where do you look to find the mold? Our motorhome is a 2005 model.
My DH side of the bed was losing air so we have a new air pump ordered.
Thank you,
Shirley

I asked a few week ago and no one answered, so I will ask again. How do you check the bladder in the Sleep Number beds?? Our new - 2007 Vectra has this bed. Husband has COPD so we need to be certain it is OK.
Thanks

Unzip the cover and check it, look inside at the bladders, around them and under them. We did. No mold.

We've had ours for three years, and no problems, yet. We have hygrometers in the LR and BR. We run dehumidifiers, when needed, to keep the humidity down below 50%.

I believe the mold concern is greater in states/areas with high humidity. And areas where it's very cold. I've seen moisture condense on our walls when we travelled in Missouri during a cold spell. The combination of cold outside and heater use inside caused the condensation.
Here in Southern California I would be surprised to see mold since our humidity rarely stays above 10%.

You will be happy with your Bear Bed. We have had ours for a number of years and love it. How do you get the moisture in you bed to cause mold? I have had my bed open and never found it to be damp or have mold.
