As we prepare for our Mexico trip, a question arose in my mind about how well our catalytic heater would work with Mexican gas. I recall several years ago, in Baja, that the heater didn't work well with some gas purchased there - wouldn't stay lit, and put out a foul smell. Knowing that their gas has a higher percentage of butane than propane, I was wondering if that is likely to happen again.
Have you had this experience?

Same Mostly Butane LPG All over Mexico!
Actually the Blend used in North America seems to be Higher in Butane the further South You Travel.
Here In BC Canada LPG is Mostly Propane so does Burn Better at Cool Temps!
We always Fill here before we head South, and fortunately In Mexico It is usually Warm enough that we don't need to use the Heater very much! Also we are usually able to use Our electric Heater when Necessary.

After one season of use in Mexico, we had to get our Olympian heater rebuilt at the factory in Napa. It was a few years ago and cost about $160. Friends just got an open flame heater and it works great. Might want to consider one of those and they are cheaper.

One solution is since we/you go to Mexico to escape the cold, go where it is warm. There is only a few areas inland that really require heat so avoid them. Works for us!
