We bought a Pressure Pro TPMS just for that reason. We've read that often folks do NOT know they have a tire problem until someone flags them down, by which time lots of damage is often done. Love my Pressure Pro.

I had a flat recently and did not know it. I just happened to look in the rear view mirror and saw a tire was flat. I have no idea how long I ran on it once it was flat.

I bought a TPMS after that.

Lost two on the old 5er. Both on the same road 1 year apart. First one saw bits of rubber and yellow insulation flying out from the wheel well, second one saw the rubber chunks. Put new ones all the way around and lost 2 more the following year. Tire guy kept telling me either I didn't air them enough or overloaded the trailer- Neither, they were junk ST's. Another time, stopped for breakfast and walked around before leaving and found huge bubble in sidewall.

A tire monitoring system is really essential for safe RVing--in my opinion. I know ours has "beeped" at us and saved us several times from a big mess with shredded tires and fenders on our 5er. I carry a 12 ton bottle jack and a DC air compressor to fix anything on the road. I realized on our trip to Alaska--no cell phone service means no emergency service! My experience with emergency service is that I can doing it faster and better--so I also carry a tarp to work on along with leather work gloves. BUT I still have the service thru my insurance.

The same way you can tell if you have one on your car or pick up.

I have had one and the boom was loud enough to get my attention and as I looked the alligator was flying into traffic.

Having just moved from a truck camper to a TT, the whole trailer thing is fairly new to me. I had read the horror stories on the forum of tire blow outs which prompted me to replace all 4 tires on our trailer. I was checking tire pressures every day we were on the road but still we had a tire blow, the tires were just two months old and maybe 3000 miles. I felt just the slightest tug on the truck that made me check my mirrors in time to see the entire carcass depart across the lane beside me. What I find scary is that after it gave that little tug, everything felt normal. If I had missed that little hint I would have just kept on going oblivious to the rim dragging on the ground...at least until the other tire blew from being over capacity. My wife says she would never have noticed it if she had been driving. Our shredded tire also destroyed the aluminum diamond plate skirting around the wheel wells. One more thing to fix. I am now shopping for a TPMS which I now feel very strongly that a trailer should be equipped with. Just trying to decide what system is best.

Hi.
Up here in the north we use 10 ply tires, I have never heard of any of my buddies having tire problems if checked on a regular basis, however if you have 15 in tires you may have problems.

Hi. An addition to my earily message, re 10 ply tires, check with local tire dealers. The best rating I have ever got on a 15 in tire was 6ply side wall. Everything we have runs on 16in ,10 plys and we never have problems. We gave our 15in tires away, they were nothing but problems, but you must understand that we live in harsh road conditions all year long.

Blessings Brent and Janet.
