More than 30000 american scientists have signed a petition stating that Global Warming is for the most part a natural cyclical phenomenon.
In my opinion the issue is driven by the race to compete for grant money and there is also the fact that the conclusion to this subject was arrived at by consensus as are many scientific conclusions.
Once a conclusion has been reached it becomes heresy to dispute the conclusion.
There was a time that scholars reached a consensus that concluded that the earth was flat.

The reason for global warming is the placement of the thermometers that measure global warming. You place thermometers by AC condensers (not very available 50 years ago), and by asphalt parking lots, so they are easy to get to & read (not very common 50 years ago), and put beside concrete buildings so they are easy to read, and guess what??? Global warming is happening!!!
That is why the oceans are not warming up according to the projected theories as proposed by the computer models. The computer models are only as good as the info injected into them.

Well, the first two things the article mentions as factors are ocean currents and sun spots. And for all the chest-thumping going on about "saving the planet" - *man* has about all the effect of a belch in a tornado on both of THOSE.....LOL!!
I think we need to be as good as we can to Mother Earth - but She's still gonna do whatever She wants.... :-)

Interesting letter in today's Billings Gazette:

"The following are facts about carbon dioxide that were extracted from several scientific publications:
• CO2 is neither a pollutant nor does it endanger public health.
• CO2 is a plant nutrient and necessary for existence of life on earth.
• Additional CO2 causes an astonishing plant growth. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, with only a 105 parts per million (0.0105 percent) increase, the Earth has had an average growth increase of about 12 percent for plants and 18 percent for trees. CO2 is Earth’s greatest airborne fertilizer.
• Higher CO2 enables plants to grow faster and larger and to live in drier climates.
• According to scientists from the USGS and NASA, CO2 is a trace gas in our atmosphere (0.0385 percent) and is a requirement for most of life to continue on this planet.
• Natural causes, such as volcanic activity and biologic activity in the oceans, annually put 97.1 percent of the CO2 into the atmosphere. All of man’s activities account for only 2.9 percent."
W. W. “Bill Ballard”
Of course, since Mr. Ballard owns an oil distribution company, everything he says is suspect.
But then, any "climate scientist" whose livelihood depends on Government Grants can follow the "change line", and everything he says is gospel.
I wonder why?
I know there are math whizzes out there; If CO2 is .0385% of the atmosphere, how much is 2.9% of .0385%? THAT is how much man-caused CO2 is in the atmosphere, IF the quoted figures are correct!
It shore ain't much!

Urea is a good fertalizer too. A little is good, a little bit more is better, but too much will burn the lawn.

It would be nice if there was a proven unbiased source of data that could show how much, if any, global warming is occurring. Snow cap of Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking. Is the habitat for polar bears shrinking also, etc, etc? I visit Japan and I can only stay for a couple of weeks because of the smog and smoking on public transportation. This is not a rant, but just observations among many that people make daily. Is there really a cure for any of this as long as population growth continues? Someone wiser than me might know the answers, but who can you believe when you have to wonder what their private agenda is?
Just some thoughts out loud.

The problem is there is no good unbiased source for measuring "global warming". Well, there are, but they are very difficult to accurately measure.
That is probably the major problem with this whole research topic.

When the concept of manmade global warming first appeared, I was highly skeptical for many of the reasons stated in earlier posts. I have changed my thinking for the following reasons.
1. Global temperatures are going up. The evidence for this is overwhelming.
2. The carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere has increased about 25-30 % since people began measuring it. That is a huge change in our atmosphere and is alarming in and of itself.
3. All or almost all of the worlds scientific societies agree that the climate is changing and that manmade emissions of carbon dioxide are contributing to that change. This includes the US National Academy of Sciences.
The National Academy of Sciences consists of the top 2000 scientists in the US. About 10% of them have won the Nobel prize. We have no better group to consult.
