Can anyone tell me about experience with a convection microwave oven when compared to a conventional oven and/or a conventional microwave oven.
I'm specifically wondering if you can install a convection microwave oven instead of both conventional oven and a microwave, and use the space you save for storage.

Hi monkey44,
You mean that thing below the cook top is an oven? I thought it was for storage *grin*.
Convection/microwave ovens will function well if there is shore power--or if you have a "super size" battery bank with a large inverter.

The new combination ovens are wonderful. They in fact can replace the conventional oven and do lots of things much better. For example, they do will on such things as frozen biscuits in half the time. Most of the gen sets will fun the unit. I suppose if you boondock then the propane oven would save energy.

The only draw back as stated before ya have to use generator or have hook ups!!! They really do work after wife gets the hang of it!! just another 2 cents rvtommy

We had the option of not having the conventional oven since we had the convection in ordering the trailer, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to use the convection. Now I rarely use the conventional oven--only when I am cooking so many things at the same time and need both. I use the convection for everything. Once you learn how it cooks--mine is a little faster than most recipes call for, so I turn down the temp a little or take less time, depending on what I'm cooking, I love it. Be sure to pre-heat before cooking and you'll find that it's much easier and doesn't get the trailer so hot.

Hmmmmmmm ... guess what I didn't think about is the need for power all the time for it. So, when no power, then no oven if we use a convection micro-oven combination.
So, that probably makes this Q a no-brainer or perhaps a 'big-brainer'... forgot about no power for the combo-oven. And we don't use a generator (YET), so that now enters the picture.
If we use combo, then we need generator also ... choice is never easy, is it?
So, what size generator will run this kind of unit - looks like the 2000 Honda at least if we get one, then it might as well run the A/C too ... complications, complications, complications - guess that's half the fun, figuring all this out. Think maybe I'll just go back to tenting Nnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!

We went from a small PUP to an HTT so anything is luxury. When we ordered the trailer we opted for the convection/microwave and not the oven. We don't do much (or any) baking while we are camping, we cook mostly outside, but we thought it would be nice for biscuits or cinnamon breakfast rolls. After a year we are using it about what we had figured. Nice having it, nice having the extra storage where the big oven would have been. Still getting the hang of it, but it does seem to take a little longer to bake things than the directions on the food item says. But hey, who's in a hurry. I think it was a good trade off.

We did just that. We had both a micro/convection and a gas oven. We had the gas stove removed, the cabinet remodeled for storage and just a cook top installed. The DW likes the micro/convection much better than a gas oven.

Or you run the generator. We have an 8.0 Kw diesel so no problem powering the oven.
We haven't had an oven in the last two MH's, have the GE Advantium 120 in the present DSDP. Gained two nice drawers for storage and never even notice that we don't have a gas oven. The gas ovens they put in usually don't heat evenly or to the correct temp, and just don't work very well. Wife would rather have the storage
