I am new to posting here even though I have been reading and learning a lot this fall. I bought a 23 ft. camper this summer and have loved camping at horse shows which I attend often. I am now ready for winterizing. I really don't have a clue where to start so I am open for advice from all you experienced campers. Thanks for all the help!

Hi,What i do is I empty all holding tanks. Then I open all low point valves, I remove the drain plug on the hotwater tank and open all the faucets. I blow low pressure ( no more than 40psi) air with my compresser through the city water hookup. I then bypass the hot water heater and close all faucets. I then pump rv antifreeze through the system. As the antifreeze is going in to the system I ensure it has come out the low point drains and then I close them. I then go to the furthest faucet, open it and then close it once the pink stuff has come out. After all lines have had anti freeze run through them I then pour some into each drain and the toilet. I place steel wool into all furnace exhaust vents and leave at least one roof vent slightly open. I am sure other will chime in with things I missed as welll as their own methods, but this is a good start. Good luck, Joe

Silver Pony, welcome to the forum, a truly great place for help and guidance. 2Oldman's list is really a great set of references for someone just getting started. Happy Camping.

If you never winterized your RV before, like I understand you haven't, you may not understand how to pump the Pink RV antifreeze through your system. I didn't when I first got my RV, but it is easy to do. It should be possible to do with any RV with a pump installed. All is needed is a syhpon adapter. RV antifreeze and maybe 5-10 minutes.

Some RV's, I'm told, has a syphon adapter but if yours doesn't buy one. Connect the adapter to the intake side of the pump, stick the syphon tube down the RV Antifreeze bottle. Best if you have another person who turns each faucet on one at a time till they see pink. This is done while the other person quickly changes the bottles by the pump. May be a better way, but works for me. My RV took less than 3 bottles.

Some people do take a shortcut and just pour antifreeze in the fresh water holding tank, then pumps the stuff through, this is an easier way and an adapter is not needed. But there is good reason not to do it this way. It seems nearly impossible to flush it all out when you dewinterize it. There is always a little in the edges or somewhere in the tank. Eventhough a little of the stuff wont hurt you, the smell and taste is very bad.

I don't blow the lines out. Drain water heater and fresh water tank. By-pass water heater. Pour 3 gallons pink RV antifreeze in fresh water tank. Open each faucet until pink runs out runing water pump. Then use a 4th gallon to open the toilet to pour some in the black water tank and pour some down the bath tub to get some in the grey water tank. Lastly fill the sink and bath tub traps. Done!

Great instructions, and thank you. But one question. I would do my own winterizing and save $50 if I knew how to property empty the hot water tank. I tried it a year ago and the dealer's service department checked it and said I hadn't done it right. I have a valve installed into the anode rod and was told that all I had to do to empty it was turn that valve. Wrong. Supposedly there is another valve at the top of the HW tank also that allows the air in, and therefore the water out. Anyone know where that valve is? I sure haven't seen it. Maybe it's on the inside of the TT??
