I have a 2006 162FL toyhauler (bought new), which I use to haul a quad and go to the desert to prospect. I know I'm well under the 7K Gross vechicle weight. It's made 8 trips of approx. 1200 miles each.

I just replaced tires and noticed they have been rubbing the top of the wheel wells (it's just wood and this isn't good!). I'm in conversation now with Carson Trailer. They suggest new springs and a 2" tubing which goes somewhere?; which will give 4 1/2" clearance (but at my cost)

I'm looking for anyone, with a TH of similar size. I have 1 1/2" clearance between top of tire and wheel well on all 4 tires; empty and level. Does'nt seem right to me???? Can anyone w/ a similar Fun runner, give me their clearances????

Thanks, Shep

I have a Carson Rebel and just went out to look at it. It's has one quad in it and it looks like it has at least 4 1/2". No rub marks and I've hauled two sport quads in it before.

Lord, grant me the senility to not recognize the people I don't like, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference

I'm thinking that if all was well with your trailer when it was new your springs may have lost their arch. If that's the case try Redneck Trailer in Fowler or Century Wheel & Rim in Fresno. If I remember right it'll cost you about $100 to replace them.

Appreciate the replies. 4 1/2"? Didn't remember, having that much clearances, but last night; I went through my old pic's and sure enough! A month after I bought it, the top of the tires are almost even w/ skirts and that was loaded w/ my quad!
Still waiting for a response to my second set of questions w/ Carson, but will check w/ the aftermarket places, in Fowler and Eberwein(sp?)Springs, if they are still in business in Fresno. Might even be able to get a little more arch added.

Thanks, Shep

Talked to someone at Carson this morning, not person I talked to previously, he said I had problem w/ bent axle, that threw the camber out and could give me number of where they buy their axles (Must of had a real bad weekend!)
Called Tru-Trailer in Fresno, where I bought it originally. Tom said he'd look at it, if I brought it down. So, went home and took it down. He said a definite drop and had the same springs in stock and suggested the shorter shackles. Also mentioned going to the 4K springs w/ the shorter shackles, but they'd have to be ordered. I went that route.

Main reason for this post is, to the newbe's. This was my first Toyhauler. This trailer works great for me. I opted for the larger refer, but didn't know about all the insidentials, one might encounter. I've changed the converter to a 3-stage, went to 2 batteries (solar's next) and now this. To the newbe when buying new- kind of know what you want, then do a good search on this forum for any problems and address them to the seller. The problem w/ my springs might be a fluke, but going the next size stronger, might be good, if it's not to solid and shake my cabinets off the walls ;-)

Take care and thanks for the input of some

Might want to check into a dexter e-z flex or mor ride shackle kit. Now would be a good time while it's all apart.

Safe travels, Mark

Got a set myself. If your pullin 1200mi trips I think it would be a great investment for your rig.
