I've been having a very bad time with static intermittently since I've owned my Sprinter 299RLS. Walking thru the hall the other night, a spark jumped from the top of my head to the flat 12VDC light fixture - about 6". Sounds funny now, but it Hurt ! ! !

Last night, came out during the night and turned on dinette light. A fat blue spark jumped about 4" and the compact fluorescent bulb lit for a split second. That's some serious juice. I jumped pretty good and let loose a string of very nasty words. Index finger was numb for a few minutes and the 1st knuckle ached.

What can be done about this ?? Today, it's just moderate. Small snap that makes me jump a bit whenever I touch anything metal that isn't too bad but it's getting very tiresome. At times I carry a key to touch things with and let the spark jump from the key - it doesn't sting so bad, but that's awkward and inconvenient.

What do you-all think ??

Thanks

Lar.

Hi gogittum,

Get a humidifier.

Try a different pair of shoes.

I don't believe that you mentioned if you were hooked up to shore power. I'm no electriction but I wonder if it might be a grounding problem? Would think it would only be evident if hooked up to shore power. If it's there when on battery power then I'd agree - some serious static.

Static electricity is caused by too dry and environment, it has nothing to do with grounding. As someone else mentioned, you have to get a humidifier and get some humidity back in the air. Anti static spray on carpet can help some, but proper humidity is a better solution.

I'm thinking the same thing. I'd like to hear from the OP.

When I worked in a rapid prototyping shop, we would regularly spray the carpet in the electronics assembly/repair area with a mix of liquid fabric softener and water. This mitigated any damage to sensative electronics by static.

When I visited a neighbor yeas ago something strange happened in their kitchen. They had stainless steal counters. If you touched them there was a strange charge that would sting your arm. I think it was a grounding problem somewhere. Could this be similar?
