I would like to hear from Wrangler owners who tow. Are you happy with the Wrangler, reliability, mechanical issues? Trying to decide between Wrangler and Subaru Thanks John

We have a 01' with a 6 and automatic, it is my daily driver.
Have towed it for 40,000 miles with no problem. I knew it would be easy to tow, felt we would use the four-wheel drive more exploring some of the areas we go.

Welcome to the forum. At the top of the page there is a box titled "search" type in Jeep Wrangler. You will see MANY posts from those that tow Wrangles, including setting up, light wiring and anything you would like to know.
Hope that helps.

We have an 04 Wrangler Sport that has been towed more miles than It's been driven. It has less than 22,000 miles on the odometer, and has been towed over 35,000 miles. So far we've only done normal maintenance and replaced a set of tires.
It doesn't ride or handle like a Lexus but it's easy to tow and great off road. Before we bought it we towed a 97 Buick behind us on a dolly. After a while it seemed pointless to haul a car along just to rent a Jeep for off roading.

We have 53k miles on our 07 Wrangler Unlimited, and another 12k as a 'toad'. Still on the original tires, which I expect to go at least another year, if not two. We've had no mechanical issues, to speak of. Considering we had one of the first off the line, we're quite happy with the choice.
There's plenty of room in the back seat, for the rare times we have anyone back there, and it does a fine job of occasionally towing the boat back and forth from our slip and it's winter home, next to the garage. Boat and trailer are around 4k lbs (I wouldn't tow it long distances as this is over the manufacturers tow rating). I'm now getting 19 mpg, average highway, although I was close to 18 even when new (don't trust the on-board computer - mine shows I get 21 mpg!)
You Subaru will get better mileage, but is not as rugged. It would be hard to break the Jeep, unless I was really trying. We like exploring off the beaten path, when the opportunity presents. Combined with the ease of setting up for flat towing, there are few better choices. One caviot, it is a bit heavy. Ours tips the scales at near 4300 lbs.

FWIW, we have an 09 Sahara 4 dr auto and have towed it to Utah a couple of times.
As for being happy with it, yes very.
On the last trip, I had to keep checking the rear view monitor to make sure it was still there.
Hope this helps.

I can not think of anything I would rather have than our Wrangler for a toad. Except maybe a new Porsche

I have a Wrangler Rubicon and a Subaru Outback.
The Wrangler can be towed on a trailer or four down.
The Subaru, being an auto tranny, MUST be towed on a trailer. I hear the manual transmission models CAN be flat towed. Not having any personal experience, I can't say for sure.
I have the flatbed trailer, so it is no problem for me.
The owner's manuals for BOTH rigs say NO dolly towing!

I am towing my Geo Tracker. It would be nice to have a Jeep but I found the 4x4 Tracker for $2500 and it was in great shape with 90,000 miles on it. It now has 140,000 miles on it and the only thing I have done is change the oil and sparkplugs. I like the Tracker because it weighs less than 2000 lbs. It climbs almost anything and runs well in soft sand.
