Thanks all for the info! I also talked to the company that builds the dolly that I will be buying and really understand now why one can't (or shouldn't) backup with the dolly.

Oh and my guy also said no matter what anybody tells me, be sure to lock the steering wheel. That was related to a question I had for him on how a tight turn with a dolly might damage the vehicle.

I have to get a dolly over flat towing because I just can't spend the (significant) extra dollars to tow four down with my Chrysler Town & Country van. $1450 compared to about $3700.

I towed a Chrysler T&C van on a dolly. It was not bad to load or unload. The valence under the front bumper would get scraped/scratched (paint off) when loading or unloading, may need boards to place on the ground to "ramp up" the van a tad before hitting the ramps. The dolly was a "pain" some times as to where to store or place at camp sites. It "dragged" me down a slight grade to the camp site once when I was moving it by hand before backing the coach into the site- WHEEE... away I went, hanging on to that dolly, it must have looked funny! I always used a strap to tie the steering wheel straight, around the bottom of the wheel to under the seat to the seat bracket. I always retightened the tire straps after 1 or 2 turns (corners) and they always needed another couple of clicks on the ratchet straps. Any other ???'s PM me. Bill

Thanks Bill! The dolly I will be ordering is an American Car Dolly which is lighter than most and has removable ramps. I have been in contact with the owner and he has been very helpful with all my questions.
