I always used to tent when I was younger, but since I grew up and got married, we have moved on to RVing, and we use our 5th wheel quite often.

But I have been missing the "roughing" part, so I recently started getting into wilderness hiking/camping stuff with my brother-in-law.

Since my budget is quite minimal, I started making some of the gear myself. I also started experimenting with "survival", or bush-crafting stuff, like making fire with stick and bow, etc...

I have made videos of some of those projects, and posted them on Youtube. I use the name "nwsisu" there. The video production is not high quality at all, I am not really good at presenting stuff. I just do it as a hobby, just for fun, and I wanted to share them with you folks here.

Remember, I am NOT selling, or advertising anything, just sharing my hobby.

Maybe some of the videos might be useful for someone. And I appreciate any kind of feedback. I am always willing to learn something new!

We did some backpacking over the years leaving our TT at the campground while we were gone and this year we returned to our tent for a six week trip thru Utah and New Mexico. This fall we will go to Wyoming and Utah for over six weeks. But we did not rough it as much as you do except when backpacking.
If we have children with us I want more comfort.

We used a coffee can for the stove I made and had holes on both the top and bottom. It took lots more holes than I thought it would.

I just thought of something you might like to try, shine up the bottom of a Coke can and have the sun reflect off of it to the tinder. It really works to start a fire. The bottom does have to be polished so it has a mirror finish.
We seldom camp in areas that do not have almost total shade so I have not tried it in years but I bet that it would not have to be a Coke can, any other kind would do.
