Mynet,

With the stay limits on the "cheaper" campgrounds I'd move every couple of weeks and keep my costs down by staying at the county parks.

Also it gives you a change of scenery new neighbors etc etc.

We've done similar things.

Hmm sounds like a good idea I need to look at the rates and plan accordingly. I can get into county/state parks for about $15-$25/day to include electric I suppose that's cheaper not to mention that I pay electricity separately where I am at. I pay about $10.60 per day ($320/month) plus electric which comes to about $100/month at the highest during the winter months grand total $13.93/day with electric I guess it evens out.

need to see if those parks have 50amp though

i'll let you all know how this goes.

Our rig is setup for 50 AMP but we only use 30 AMP 90 percent of the time and that works fine get a 30 AMP to 50 AMP conversion cable and don't fuss the 50 AM.

I stay away from the commercial parks. We have so much free parking for access to the rivers and woods that I will never get to use them all. I use river access at the dams (flood control and hydro) where access is provided for fishing and boat launch, parking for access to paved bike trails, flat spots opened up by hunters (vacant most of the year), yacht refuges and fisheries research stations. Cities, counties and regional "Metroparks", park & ride lots are locally convenient (as well as ranging from remote and rustic to fed-funded paved and lighted)
You don't *need* campers parked around you. Consider getting away for a few days each week until you become comfortable with your solitude. If you need an "excuse" for being out on the river, a rod and fishing license will serve. No one will bother you EXCEPT if you get caught out drinking. Since you stay local, find restaurants that deliver; it's nice to have pizza, chineese or your favorite breakfast brought to you. Some of my best spots have gas&party stores, McD's or groceries within walking distance.
Sleeping is great on the river with the sound of water over the dam providing the greatest "white noise". (makes me sleepy just remembering it)
You don't *need* the rv parks. Hook-ups are nice, but not absolutely necessary continuously.
No, I'm not advocating the Walmart lifestyle. That just does not appeal to me. I will stop and snooze at a rest area on the intestate, but not very often.

We live full time in our RV and usually move between two parks about every three weeks. This works for us as we also work in the area. Sometimes we do house sit for friends and so we move to their place for a week or how ever long they are going to be gone.

if I was workcamping in the area (not necessarily at the park) it would make sense even now I am just volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol. If I were workcamping AT the park, I would be more inclined to stay put until my rotation would be complete and save the funds for when I do need to pay for a spot or other needs.

was not sure if you full timers were into moving 2-3 miles down the road to the next park is feasible or desirable but then that depends on their own preferences. While touring or workcamping etc For me, it sounds like a good idea as I'll get more practice hauling and dealing with a large rig.

It will be more expensive to move every week or so. Monthly rates are often the rough equivalent of 10-15 days at the daily rate. But, it's your money and your life so do what you want.

Not trying to high-jack the thread, but a lot of you posting are from the northwest. Come join us in the northwest rally forum thread - just click on the hotlink below!

Now, back to regularly scheduled programing/thread comments!!

The first year or two, we kept moving fairly steadily, every week or two. The past 2 years we have slowed up some. Even taking advantage of the monthly rates that reduces your per day costs, as mentioned earlier.

Hope that helps keep things on track!!
