2005 Springdale. Had minor things go wrong mostly appliances Fridge would not keep same temp. Today during a Furnace service at the dealer, they told me trailer has a leak in 3 areas in the back (although i've not seen water damage inside). They offered two options.

A/ Repair the 3 sections they can't say if the repair will last five months or 5 years it depends all on climate and patch doing it's job.
(Price to patch all three areas is $400 hopefully they stay good for years not months). Going with this option.

B/ Replace rubber roof aprox $3500. I am not about to replace it given the age of the TT. I would probably trade it in before replacing the roof.

How long do TT roofs generally last before they tend to leak ??

Someone told me a Vinyl roof will last longer than rubber and not dry rot, cost is about the same but TT manufacturing prefer rubber for ease of working with.

Each season I checked the ceiling and roof for signs of problems. This took me by surprise when I was told it had 3 leaks. Won't stop us from camping, fix it and carry on camping, we love it, lol.

2005 and it's dying already? Someone screwed up somewhere.....

All I've done to my EPDM is a thorough cleaning each fall and treat it with Protect-All.....and covered the roof when not in use for it's first ten years.....the last 6 it's been under a carport when sitting here.

FWIW: My 96' F-R Layton is entering it's 16th season w/o any signs of problems...if it's installed properly, and then you take care of it----it'll take care of you!

just locate where it is leaking and repair it with Dicor, or ask your dealer to do it with Dicor.
It will only cost you three or four tubes of the stuff, and a hour or less of labor

If you can crawl up on the roof, and take a roll of EternaBond up there with you...you'll save roughly $350.00 AND do a better, longer lasting patch all by yourself!

$50.00 for a 4" x 50' roll, buy a wood wall paper roller for 5 bucks at home depot, clean the surface of the roof, peel and stick the tape on a warm day, roller the cr@p out of it...firmly! And you've aded at least another 20 years to the roof!

Unless someone prior to you used some worthless and potentially damaging "roof treatments" on the membrane, or cleaned it too aggressively...it should have lasted 15 to 20 years plus.

I am looking at a Puma TT by Forest River. In their brochure they list under Standard Exterior Features: "Rubber Roof - 12 Year Manufacturer's Warranty"

Extended warranties might either be a pass-through the dealer or direct with the owner when they say "Manufacturer's Warranty". I'm sure they would have the standard legalize about damages caused by negligence, falling trees, etc. It might be worth contacting Springdale to inquire about a roof warranty. Even a prorated 7/12% is better than nothing.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Get a second opinion...and certainly don't pay a dealer $450 to squeeze a couple of tubes of Dicor...

Most EPDM Rubber roofs have a 12 year warranty AND most leaks have nothing to do with the EPDM roof. 99% of them are caulking issues and the other 1% is caused by DAMAGE which is not covered under any roof warranty. The average LIFESPAN is quite a bit longer than the warranty.

Manufacturer of the roof fabric is the one offering the roof warranty, not Springdale. The warranty covers the rubber fabric only. No coverage for leaks caused by lack of caulking. Read the warranty. It's about useless.

I recently purchased a new Skyline Retro trailer. It's got a seamless aluminum roof. I've never seen one of these before. anyone know if they're better or worse than rubber roofs?

Cheers,

Dan K.

The main problem is not the roof material, but the penetrations for vents and the sealing of the roof to the sides, front and ends of the trailer where they insist on using the cheap route by caulking instead of doing it right with Eternabond. Of course dealers would hate the Eternabond since they then would be out of business doing roof inspections, re-sealing or replacement of the roof.
