My husband and I are camping in Whitefish at the beginning of July. We are staying a couple of nights just outside of Fernie on our way back. From there we are going up to Rocky Mountain house and I was wondering if anyone knows where there would be a good campground with partial hookups on the way. We are planning on going north of Lethbridge. We contemplated going up through Radium and across the David Thompson Highway but the campgrounds are all on a first come first save basis and I am much happier knowing after driving for 4 or 5 hours that we have somewhere to pull in for sure!! Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!

Hi,

There is a campground with electric only (30 amp) at Lundbreck Falls. It is worth the (slight) detour just to see the falls. At Lundbreck I'd probably turn north on highway #22.

There is whispering spruce campground north of Calgary--but it is poor poor poor--and likely flooded--with trains, planes, and automobiles.

This site will work only in internet explorer (dumb move, Alberta)

Highly recommend you take highway 22 ( just east of Pincher Creek). You can follow that all the way north right in to Rocky Mountain House. This is a great road and much more interesting than using highway #2 from Ft. McLeod. Stunning views of the mountains virtually the whole way!
part way between Pincher Creek and Cochrane Chain Lakes Prov. Park has a pretty nice cg. Visit the Visitors Information Center as you enter Alberta (Crowsnest?) and get a provincial highway map and info. about provincial parks and cgs. many cg, along this route. A few miles south of Rocky Mtn.House is on of our favorite sights - Ram Falls with a cg nearby. Enjoy the trip

I second Hwy 22 all the way up to Rocky Mountain House. You will have a veiw of the rocky mountains out the drivers window from the time you turn onto Hwy 22 until you get to Rocky.
There is a great campground right in Cochrane that we have stay at a number of times, the Bow Riversedge campground Cochrane campgound
The only issue would be if you’re going to be there the same time as the Calgary Stampede ( July 8th – 17th) We have gotten a one (1) night stay there during the Stampede a couple of times, however you do have to phone to get a reservation. You’re looking at a leisurely (depending on traffic), 4 – 5 hrs drive from Fernie to Cochrane pulling a rig , and from Cochrane to Rocky Mountain house 2 – 2.5 hrs pulling a rig.

If you are traveling on #22 from #3 to Rocky, here are a number of spots where you could stay:

Black Diamond: Foothills Lions Club Campground

Turner Valley: Hell's Half Acre Campground

Bragg Creek: Campsites in the Elbow Valley

Cochrane: Bow RiversEdge (as previously mentioned) or Springhill RV Park

Sundre: a number of places http://www.sundre.worldweb.com/WheretoStay/Campgrounds/
including my home park; Coyote Creek Golf & RV resort.
