I need some help with reasons for not lending your rig to friends and family. I know the arguement will be coming up soon and I for one just don't think it's a good idea. I have a 31.5 foot 2012 Rockwood TT.

Simple, I just say "No". I simply make it a policy not to lend out my cars, trucks, motorcycles, or camper. Unless I REALLY trust the person, and that person has the means to replace anything they break. I can think of 2 maybe 3 people I would lend the above items too.

There are no reasons that they are going to be happy with, so just tell them that you refuse to let ANYONE else use it, PERIOD.

I agree. Assuming the insurance liability for someone else driving your rig is not something I would do.

Some insurance companies might give you a hard time if they were to get into an accident while pulling the trailer.

Just be honest with them and tell them you don't lend it to ANYONE. You might even want to see if anyplace near you or them does rent RV's, then you could give them that information when you tell them "NO".

We lent our old 5ver to our DD & her DH...It was an older rig and I was wanting a newer one but it came home with a broken awning and door window as they didn't know how (well enough anyway) to put the awning up and it was getting stormy so they were hurrying...We had insurance but still guess who ended up dealing with the problem! It was a housing situation not just for a weekend trip but still it was a pain that I hope I don't have to do again, and don't plan on...but never say never in certain circumstances, I might thme but no one else.

If they are reasonable/logical at all...they should understand the issues. When we started RVing with a pop up camper, there were so many steps opening it up, stableizing, breaking down....if these steps where not done in the correct order, or skipped/forgotten, then severe damage could occur to the RV. This still applies to trailers, 5th wheels and class A's. It's not like a stick home, where the most important thing is to lock the windows and doors, maybe turn off water so pipes don't freeze in winter. Why do you think that "rental" trailers are in such poor shape...?? End of issue.

With all that can go wrong on a RV, there is no way I would even think of lending my rig out. The sole exception is a good friend of mine who has worked in RV repair for 10 years and knows my rig better than I do.

It doesn't take much to cause major, expensive repairs (even for a DIY type.) Something as simple as leaving the refrigerator on for a few hours on unlevel ground will result in permanent damage that won't be found until down the line. Or someone getting drunk and stuffing beer bottles down the toilet, which means a tank drop and replacement.
