The ringtone is working ok.. all I need to do is create a ringtone folder anywhere on the SD. However, the notification is not behaving that way. Seems I can't create a 'notify' or 'notification' folder and have that work.

some ANDROID phones have a folder. "system/media/audio"
in there are sub folders for alarms .. notifications .. ringtones ..

you definitely need a file manager, if your Razr doesn't have one
ES explorer or Astro both are good and have free versions, there many more out there that will also work
just download one from the market

anyway.. tethering works without any added software. I have Motocast.
