GE is building a new thin-film solar panel factory near Denver, in Aurora, Colorado. The plant will create 355 jobs and is expected to open in 2013.

I think it is supposed to produce 400 MW of panels each year.

OK now I have this bugging me to look at panels. The ebay listing seems good but I don't need four panels 65x40 as I can only fit three.

So now I am looking at these for about the same price. $1.05 per watt.

http://www.solarblvd.com

Also they are close enough I can just pick them up, no freight charges Just sales tax.

I will end up with an MPPT either way.

Probably not the best in some way but I like the price.

Any red flags to avoid these?

SMK,
I have been looking hard at these panels also, but the shipping would kill the deal, at 660 #'s as they list it.

Where is this Company located at? I have been looking for the town and can't place it.

I have been checking this place out also,

Hi smk,

Nice find. I'd suggest riveting angle aluminum to the long sides to stiffen the frame. A tristar 60 amp mppt unit would be my choice for the controller.

Closest warehouse looks to be Phoenix.... too far for me.
Shipping these big panels is not cheap.

For camping in mountains while skiing in California sunshine, the panel rating Voc for 25C has to be adjusted upwards for cool temps using the temp adjustment figures provided in the specs. Then use the higher than spec Voc for determining what the MPPT's max allowed voltage needs to be so the controller is not destroyed by over-voltage. Does the Tristar 60 fit that? I have not done the calculation--that's smk's job.

Very good price. When the trailer gets too old you can swap the panels to the new one and it won't matter about the holes in the roof on the old one, since it will have other issues by then anyway

Hi BFL,

If memory serves the Tristar mppt can accept 150 volts on the input side. (correct now)
