Recently had to part with our 86 trooper---------just wore out-------beyond reasonable use.

looking opinions on a newer type toad (but not new.

one that has a/c and cruise control.

Motor-home is Class "A", 36 ft, v10 engine. limited to max of 5000 pound toad----would not want to go that heavy, maybe 4200.

we have been motor-homing only for 3yrs. come of the issues that must be addressed is my size 6'8", 250 #'s.

Do not want a jeep product because read so much about electrical and other problems---seems the purchase price is only down payment on the long term cost.

I usually keep vehicles a very long time.

open to all any thoughts presently without a toad.

Can't agree about a Jeep. One of the best and most popular toads around for a very good reason.

Honda CR-V...hard to beat...light, reliable, economical, good ride, and roomy.

I don't want to get in the middle of the Jeep lovers, but past experience with them tells me I'll never have another. My last Jeep was none of the adjectives used for the CR-V...JMHO, of course.

sooner or later ever company builds a lemon. our '03 wrangler has 70,000+ miles, the '10 lib has 17K+ since june of '10 and my '46 CJ...well, i've lost track on how many times the odometer has spun around since my family acquired it in 1959. and those are powered miles. the wrangler has 7+ seasons of towing miles and this summer the lib will see it's 3rd season. we put between 4 and 5K miles on the MH each season.

the only vehicle we could reasonably call a 'lemon' was our '78 Olds Cutlass. that was a real POS. every other vehicle has seen a minimum of 100K and as much as 175K miles before being sold.

I also vote for the Honda CR-V. Very roomy, 3,400 lbs., good gas mileage, nice power for it's size, good storage. I would think a person of your size would fit just fine. The only way to know is to try one.

I had two new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited's in the past, both had to be towed under their warranty back to the dealer as they left me stranded. I didn't want another Jeep product to worry with and the Honda has never let me down.

Your mileage may vary.

I have found that a Saturn SW2 may be the best toad for the money. Cheap, like 96-02 range from $2k to $3.5 easy. They can get around 38 MPG. Move 5 people, and a large dog. Only 2300lbs. They have a timing chain, NO BELT! Plastic bodies do not dent or rust. Parts are cheap. They were American made.
For that price, you can buy one for what you would lose by driving a new car off the lot!
