Have you often used WalMart for overnights? If so, have there been any issues?

RRUGG's words X3 for us also and never had a problem since the mid 1960s anywhere in the USA including Alaska and Canada for so many days each year of traveling in or with our various RVs. However, when using "Passport America", most CGs require you to call ahead which we do when we're around an hour or so away from the CG's location we would like to spend the night or a couple days at. If we have full hookups or water and electric or just electric or no hookups at all doesn't matter much to us as all our RVs are always truely self contained and won't have it any other way. That's why they build them that way! Staying at exclusive CGs or resorts or on the side of a mountain with a view or deep in the woods with real nature 24/7 or on the shore of a gorgeous lake, a waterfall, a clear rushing stream, or a river while having the comforts of home winter, spring, summer, or fall is where it really at!

Depends on where you want to go. Special places like Yellowstone or Grand Canyon by all means have a reservations. Otherwise my navigator gets on the phone when we pull out. Never had a problem in 7 years.

We always make reservations. We have very limited timeframe to camp (weekends or vacation time). I do not want to drive around looking for a place to stop and camp or the chance of getting a crappy site. We normally have a set destination in mind.

For those who are not limited to timeframes, destinations or those that don't have kids with them, I can kind of see it more so of not making reservations. I probably still would for the most part. Also if if you had a motorhome, it might make it a little easier.

Reservations just put me on a schedule, and I hate being on a schedule.

We seldom make reservations unless we are familiar with the spot and know where we want to be. A lot of the campgrounds are not listed in the books. It seems to me that mostly just the high priced ones are there. Also depends on how long you are staying. Most campgrounds reserve some spots for short term visiters.

Here in Alberta we make only reservations for long weekends, and this gets done about 3 months in advance, or else you will not get in anywhere. But if we are traveling for 2 weeks or so we don't usually.

We seldom make reservations except for major holiday weekends or peak season weekends and then may make them only a day or few days in advance.

Went to Co, AZ UT three years ago. May 20 thru about Jun 20th. When we left home I knew Memorial Day weekend would be a problem w/ no reser. We found a state park for Fri night and then moved to a nearby lodge for Sat and Sun. Would have went to the lodge for Fri but didnt know it exhisted. No problems the other nights. Had some really nice campgrounds all along the way- esp CO.

Since we only go to really cool places we always make reservations. It's a drag and I hate it, but have to do it if we want a spot.

Sometimes it works out really well. Last summer we spent a week near Boston at Wompatuck SP. The sites only have electric, but by studying the CG map and Google maps I found a beautiful semi secluded site right next to a water spigot.
