I think its humidity.
with the spread there is excess moisture and you are in Florida.
I imagine you sort of steaming the bread. The use of butter allows the bread to get hotter since you are not boiling the water until it steams out then cooking at above 212 f.

If it wern't for the fact that we have friends and family in Florida, you just gave me a good reason not to go there. I use non stick fry pans but back befor that I used castiron and never had a GC stick. But like mosr suggest Real Butter (I HATE margarine, dates back to the ration card era and getting margarine in plastic bags with a dot of coloring on the side you squeezed befor kneeding that ...) on both sides and Fresche's Mustard on the inside.

Now you are dating yourself. I didn't think anyone would remember the white margarine packages with the red dot that you broke and kneaded until it all turned yellow.

To high of heat. If you are making them in the rv then you need to turn the burner down. Way down. I make Grilled cheese on 2 or 3 where as in the house I made them on 6 or 7.
I was having the same problem and this solved it for me no matter what I plastered on the outside. lol

Back off the Country Crock....it's good... we use it on our grilled cheese sandwiches with no problem in a teflon coated pan.
