We have a 2010 freelander and have put 25k on it (trips up north 3-4 times a year to see our kids). If/when we want to maybe trade up to a class A, what will hurt us more, the miles we'll continue to add or the years as it gets older (or both)?

thanks

I will go with both, but miles probably will affect resale value regardless of age.

They will both effect the value

When we purchased ours, the shop manager who was doing the walk through with us told us to "use it".

He mentioned a lady who had recently traded in her 8yo unit that only had 5,000 miles on it. She was very upset as to what she got for it.

Either way, years or miles, rack it up to good times and do the best you can.

Happy Camping, you'll love the "A".

Last year we traded in our 5 year old Freelander for a new Class A. It had about 25,000 miles on it and we were disappointed with the trade in value. We actually tried to sell it outright but it did not happened so we had no choice but to trade it in. The trade in was not even close to what we owed on it. But on the other hand....we love our Class A!!

It seems that once a motor home hits over 50k, people start thinking they can find the same "Popular Brand" rig elsewhere with fewer miles for the same money. So I would say.....At the rate you are going, miles will hurt you faster than age. But I also say that I think you should enjoy your rig and not worry about the miles unless you are very close to that day when you plan to make the switch to a class A, and if also close to the 50k mark with your Freelander. If way past the 50k mark at that time, then 80k would be the next checkpoint, then 90k, then 100k, then it just wouldn't matter.

An experienced shopper will look for a balance that includes condition. Within reason, miles and years are secondary to the condition of the unit. You need to weigh each element: year, condition, and miles in your search.

I think you need to throw 'condition' in the mix. A fairly new unit with low miles in poor condition will be worth less than the same unit in good/excellent conditon. JMO

Toys ( Rv's & Boats ) depreciate faster than most items . The key is to use it and enjoy it . As bank discovery and loan qualifications tighten , the process may get even worse . I'm surprised that the length of RV loans have not been shortened .

I agree that value is determined by a variety of conditions. This is one of those situations in which you must really do your homework. We had no trouble getting most favorable interest rate and credit terms on our recent purchase. With good credit and the right lending institution it shouldn't be hard. We use a local Federal Credit Union.

We traded in an 01 that was 7 years old and had 50,000 miles on it. Dealer said that the miles did not have an adverse effect on the trade in. He would rather take in a unit that is used on a regular basis since issues/problems (coach and chassis) are seen and fixed right away.

By the way, he sold it two weeks later.
