Sorry if this has already been posted but I searched & searched.....& couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I live in Wyoming which allows double towing up to 85'. I occasionally go to Nebraska (65' max length) & Colorado (70' max length). How exactly does this work in other states if I am above their length limit, but under Wyoming's length limit???

Local state rules apply. That being said you will seldom be pulled over for over-length. But if you are, count on a fine and being forced to disconnect and complete your time in that state towing each trailer separately

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Prepare for the firestorm, double towing isn't very popular on this site.

I've towed tandem for over 10 years. I've been over length in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Utah, and never had any difficulty. I feel strongly that if you drive responsibly, you are unlikely to turn heads of law enforcement.

Bingo... My uncle has double towed for years with a cclb dually, 38' 5th and an enclosed trailer for 4wheelers. I know he is over 90' long. He has never been pulled over. Travels through Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, pensylvania and the east coast.

The only time he talked to a Leo about it the guy said as long as you don't draw attension to yourself you will b fine. Keep to the speed limit and keep your trailers under control.

Texas allows double towing with a 5th Wheel. I think their length is 65 or 70ft total length.

Reciprocity agreements only apply to driver's licensing, insurance requirements, and registration requirements, generally speaking.
Anything else (braking, towing doubles, length, width, etc.), you will have to comply with the laws of the state in which you are operating.
Of course, you are free to ignore the rules and hope for the best.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input everybody. I think I will take my chances, drive the speed limit & hope for the best! Hopefully I won't end up being the 1% that gets stopped.

My observations indicate that many tandem towers are over Nebraska's 65' max length, and I am one of them (by 2'). However, I only run at 60 MPH on the Interstate and less than that on 2 lane highways. I try to be courteous and pull off if traffic backs up behind me on the 2 laners. I have never seen a tandem tower pull over by the authorities.

And always remember the golden rule of tandem towing: never, never, never... let yourself get into a situation where you have to back up.

Here in WI, the length limit is 65'. We tandomed in MT with a 29' TT and and 20' boat. Now with this new limit, we have chosen to go with a truck camper. Just remember, (don't yell at me anyone), just because you may not get pulled over, it's against the law and if you get in an accident, your insurance doesn't have to cover you, even if it's not your fault. It also reflects badly on ethical RVers.
