I just installed a Winegard SK3005 sat dish. After it locks on to the satellites the control box is still on & drawing power. The operation manual references an “Emergency Power Off” feature by pressing Power & Select at the same time. If you are parked at a campground for several days then repower the unit it goes through the search routine before the unit can be stowed. Any way around this?

Also are all of the coax connections watertight (I used the coax supplied by Winegard with one F connector on one end) or should I wrap some kind of protective tape around them?
The installation & operation manuals are not clear.

I have not contacted Winegard Tech Support yet. I thought there were plenty of people on this board that would have similar questions.

Thanks
Ron

I don't use the auto dish but on connectors for RG6 coax after I crimp the connector I wrap black electrical around the base of the connector, then put a light coat of rtv silicon adhesive over the tape. I have never had a problem with RG6 connections in wet weather.

I turn my box off all the time when dry camping, .. when on shore power it's a non-issue. To re-power, push the Power button, wait till the panel lights up, then press the Power button again to toggle it to the off (and store) cycle. That's it, .. it will immediately begin the store cycle.

I have no suggestions on the coax, I've never had a problem with mine for the almost 4 years it's been connected.

If you have any type of power outage, tripped breaker, etc., when the control box is on it will shut off (sat dish remains still). When power is re-istablished box will remain off and dish stays in position. If you are dry camping, after dish is set up, you can pull plug on box and eliminate current draw.

To stow dish, press power button for two seconds and it will go to stow mode. Remember to plug box in if unplugged. Bare F-connectors should not be a problem. They are bare on most everyones stick home installation.

Thanks, everyone!
I guess I'll quit worrying about it and just use it.

Rather than play with the controller, I just added a toggle switch to the power going to the controller. Power on or off, the system still works fine once it locks on. When switching it back on, the dish does not search again.

This is the way it works on mine. We dry camp frequently. To conserve power during the day I turn off the inverter, which in turn powers off the dish, the receiver, the TVs and a host of other devices and parasitic loads. When I cut the inverter back on the dish does not move/search again, although the DTV receiver does go through a lengthy re-start routine. I would not mess with the Winegard box until you are ready to stow it.

Always check that it is stowed before moving. If you push the power off button and it begins stowing and then the power is interrupted it will stop. I have mine on inverter. Was running generator, stowed dish, then stopped generator. It was pouring down rain at the time. Drove 20 miles home with dish up. During the time my transfer switch in the inverter switched, the dish controller lost power for a second. Same can happen when you unplug from shore power.

After the dish is setup , just pull the plug. Plug back in when ready to stow.

Thanks All!
It wasn't quite as complicated as I had imagined. It still amazes me that this thing just finds the sats and locks on. After dealing with the AS2003 for years it is a real pleasure!
