We were told at the visitor's center on 41 outside Everglade City yesterday, that The Loop Road is closed due to construction. After completing W J Jane's Memorial Scenic Drive yesterday we continued into Picayune Strand State Forest's Stewart Blvd/100th Ave SE where we say a large black animal, possible a large bear, crossing the road. We stopped at the South Naples Citrus Grove on the way out to Collier Blvd. We are looking forward to doing The Loop Road.
Does anyone know when The Loop Road is going to reopen?

IMHO, if your vehicle is low to the ground I would either go very, very slow or skip Jane's Scenic Drive. Getting over what appear to be new culverts may be a challenge. You do not need all wheel drive/4x4, just clearance. We made the passage in a Jeep Grand Cherokee with no probems.
