We found a nice little state park near our home that we want to go try out.

It almost seems goofy to go camping so close to home.

Thoughts?

Why? I do it frequently because I don't have a lake at home or a beach and camp fires are not allowed in the city without a permit. We always just referred to that type of camping as a "practice vacation".

We're at a campground for the summer that is 2-1/2 hours from our home. We are the oddballs there. The majority of campers live within an hour from the campground. A friend visited this weekend. She talked to several people who lived in the little village nearby. She commented that people treated the campground like their country club. They like to be close to home, do laundry, have kids attend summer school or classes or sports practice; dad comes out after work. Me.....I like to get away from all that; dad comes for the weekend! Okay, we've been married for 33 years...the break helps a little!!

We go to a county park just about 10 miles from us and we love it. We have the peaceful surroundings, campfires, new people to meet---why not?

Not goofy at all! I just haul the house from one cg to the other. A little rowdy on the weekends and holidays during the camping season. But, tolerable. Lots of million dollar views and no yard work.

I use to travel 3-5 hours a weekend to camp at a campground. One night sitting around the fire surrounded by trees and the stars in the sky I realized I could do this at a park 10 minutes from my house and do exactly the same thing and instead of driving for six hours - that time could be spent camping. Plus the savings in gas usually paid for the campground. Its not where your camping, its who your camping with that makes all the difference.

We used to camp fairly frequently at a couple different state parks within 20 miles of our home (then we moved quite far away). Good times, those. You're lucky to have one so conveniently close to you!
