Just wondering if there is a family camping club in Southern IL anywhere? I know my parents where in one in DuQuoin for a long time, but we are looking for a club with a younger crowd with children? Just wondering!

Thats ok, My Mom and Dad where in a club for years and met so many people and the club got together once a month and camped out and had fun, my kids would go with them alot and had fun! We have talked to some people we know that camp but everyone is so business with stuff anymore (including us) but we take the time to take our camper out with our kids, I feel like it is one of the only times I get to just not have to work on something or do something. And I get to spend time with my family!

Hi! I camp in southern IL, and have all of my life, but am unaware of camping clubs. When I was in high school my mom belonged to an unofficial group of families that camped together often. As a matter of fact, either this weekend or next I will most likely head down to Rosiclare and camp by the river. I want to take advantage of the fall leaves.
A group from my town camp in the Golconda area every weekend. Again, it's not an official club.
I was camping at Carlyle Lake weekend before last, and there were two groups, but I don't know if it was a club. There is a pop-up campers club, or I guess they're still around.

We get so disgusted with the lack of camping around St. Louis. Our kids attended SIUE, and we did find a nice place in Edwardsville to stay, but it wasn't the "campground" feel. It was more of a place to overnight. Now that our son lives in a loft in downtown St. Louis, we'd like to camp near him. The only places are the Casino on the IL side, which closes in October, the RV place downtown (basically camping on a parking lot), or Babler state park 30 or so miles west.

@ bakerkids - I've noticed some of your pictures in the campsite pictures (I think?) and thought that we have either been to some of the same places and would like to visit some of the others. Yes, we prefer shaded campsites that have trees and are not on top of each other too. Over Columbus Day weekend we went to Sam A Baker State Park in MO, about a 2 1/2 hour drive. It was a nice place.

We've been by Sam Baker, but not camped there. We should, we're Bakers. lol
In or near Mo:
We were in Hermann, MO, last March.
We used to try to go annually to Johnson's Shut-Ins...until the reservoir break. We did return for a short trip last year when returning from Springfield, MO.
We've gone many times to the Meramec area, both the state park and the park by the cave. These trips were in a motorhome or cabin tent, though.
Over the 4th of July last year we were at Ozark Outdoors near St. James, Mo.
We've camped at Red Barn Rendezvous in Edwardsville.
Several times each summer at Carlyle Lake, either Dam West or the state park.
Maybe pics from those locations are what you saw...

We live in Southern Illinois and while we are transplants we have been here for awhile and have never heard of any sort of club either. But I will say this, please contact us when you get it setup as we would be interested as we are always looking for an excuse to take off!
Best wishes,
