I am just at a loss as to why people in small cars would park in the Truck areas. I have noticed an increase of this behavior over the last year. At least on the East coast. In one NY rest area an 18 wheeler had to pass through as there was no room due to several lanes taken up by cars.
It's strange as every time I see this there are many empty spaces for cars much closer to the facilities.

Probably thinking they might be able to park a little closer to the rest rooms. And heaven forbid they had to walk an extra few feet.

Really?
My biggest pet peeve while driving the interstates and highways is cars and trucks going very slowly while in the "Passing" lane. Get in the passing lane, speed up enough to make the pass, and get out.
While rude to park a 15' car in a 80' long truck parking spot, perhaps they just missed the sign on the way in. Being trapped between four trucks for about 8 hours should solve that behavior quickly though.

Even more impolite are all the cars in the RV lanes at Cracker Barrel. Most of these just think that as they are the most important people in the world, no one else matters.

Ok, so most of us are in agreement that these folks are idiots. Want to feel better, right away and for free? I'll let you in on my dirty little secret, my worst guilty pleasure.... Watch the Cable TV show "Parking Wars". I think it is on the Discovery Channel. The camera crew follows the the "Meter Maids" as they make their rounds in Detroit, Philadelphia, Providence and the Bronx writing tickets. They shoot at the impound lots as well.
When I watch this show I am falling out of my chair laughing. If you want to see some idiots with lame excuses get what they deserve you just have to watch this show. Particularly funny is when they "Boot" cars for nonpayment of tickets, man do they have some tall tales and attitude.

If cars parking in the truck/trailer area bothers you, and it does bother me, please say thanks to the crew at the Greenville AL rest area. On more than one occassion I have seen them tell cars (or non-towing pick ups) to move or they will call a trooper.
