thirty years ago we bought an RV. We have not tent camped since then. My neighbor had a nice tent in his yard sale and we bought it. We leave in about two weeks for Yosemite. The MH stays home. We will see how this goes.

Take a whistle to scare the bears out of your campsite at night.

We were in the group camp area and each night bears would come through looking for food. They got close enough to the tent you could hear them breathing and hear their paws hit the soft dirt.

Never bothered anyone but they were able to open the bear proof food locker of a boy scout troop in the next campsite. The boys were able to scare the bears away before they lost any food.

I'm still like a tent. When I have people come to the trailer I tell them to stay in the trailer and I'll stay in the tent. Have a cot and a therma-rest sleeping pad. Dang bathroom issue though.

In CA they are black bears. A lot less dangerous than grizzly bears. When we pup tented years ago we threw rope over limb of tree & stored food. Didn't the coul break intobear lockers.

Based on my recent tent camping experiences, it will make you really appreciate your MH!

Have fun.

After we sold our Volkswagen camper years ago we broke out the old tent and went camping a few times in it. I really enjoyed the mobility and flexibility, we could stay in places that were out of reach to us even in the campervan.

I also enjoyed the light and airy feel that came with a tent and hearing the sounds of nature while lying in my bed. What I didn't like was the packing and unpacking of the car that came with tent camping, and putting everything away when we got home.

Now with my tent trailer I get the best of both worlds.

I don't think that the ground has gotten any softer in the past 30 years. Consider picking up some interlocking foam floor pads to place under your tent. An air bed would be a good idea as well.
Enjoy Yosemite! I'm jealous.

Don't let anyone spoil your fun - not even the bears. They don't want you. They want goodies. So don't put the goodies in the tent...and that includes any fruit flavored lip gloss or drinks.

The last time I slept in a tent... we had decided air mattresses were the way to go. Takes up the middle of the tent. No place to stand without being hunched over. Found out...Putting jeans on while laying on an air mattress is a whole lot of frustration and exercise.
