I sold an RV on eBay to a guy in Florida. He has already contacted me & paid the $100 deposit via Paypal. He says he's going to get a transport company to pick it up but we haven't worked out the when yet.

He owes several K. How would be the best/ most trustworthy way to get the money? I don't want to get the rest thru Paypal because of the fees.

I don't THINK he's a Nigerian scammer since he mentioned NOTHING about sending me EXTRA money.

The only way to be 100% sure is CASH, pure and simple.

Maybe a wire transfer from his bank to yours, dunno for sure about that. He can bring you a cashier's check but it may be no good, which you will find out too late. Personal check, ditto. Money order, ditto.

I do know, I would do nothing until I had the cash in my hand, not a check, not a cashier's check. Cash.

I would not release the RV until I had cash in hand.

In this case the fees may be worth it. You should retain possession until ANY form of payment has been cleared and proven to be good.

It's very common for scammers to buy sight unseen for the asking price and have it shipped.

I'm in Texas; he's in FL. With a transport company I didn't think he would be coming. Just sending someone to pick it up. Believe me I won't release it till I get paid but I'm looking for options here.

He offered to pay my business with his Visa. I don't have a business which I told him. I just said, while he looked for transport I would explore my options to get paid.

Very few options. It depends on how much we're talking about here. If he scams Paypal, you could be out also when they want their money back. Cash, cash, cash.

If he trusts the transport company with his property, then have them bring you your cash.

Ok. Anyone near Cape Coral, FL? His address is on the Paypal ID when he paid me.

I'll send "My transport company" is usually a scam. They will want you to pay the transport company with money they send you which of course will not be any good.

Just remember, you can not be assured of anything (money order) being good for 10 days after deposit.

Just be aware.

I would demand a money transfer into my bank from their bank. Plain and simple or cash. Nothing else

If he can hold off on arranging for pickup, you could accept his check, but wait until it clears before the RV is picked up.

So far, you are still in the driver's seat...you have his $100 deposit.
I'd make this a cash in hand deal and download, print and have a "sold as is - no warranty - no return," bill of sale signed by him.

Note: somehow this just doesn't sound right to me. FL to TX transport deal, sight unseen...I don't know. Be extra careful with this one.

Hopefully all the skepticism is unwarranted and the deal will go smoothly for you.
