Been a member long enough to see the words "goin' to QuartzSite" pop up so often that it seems like I should know what folks are talking about.

I finally looked it up and it looks like a Giant RV Parking Lot that fills up in January/February every year...what on earth brings all those rigs down there????

Thanks

Francesca, stick-in-the-mud

I guess you could compare it to a big carnival or going to the yearly fair. Some like to sample what life has to offer and others choose not to.

But what makes folks go there the first time?

Though I must admit that Chris's "cheapcheapcheap" description makes it sound like My Dream Vacation...

They see other people talk about it. They see the pictures of it. It's the thing to do in the winter. It's on our bucket list in about 15-20 years from now....lol

We will try it at least once.

In some ways it is the RV equivalent of what Sturgis is to the motorcycle fraternity. Quartzsite is usually warm, very inexpensive (like $180 for six months camping), vendors, and 200-300,000 like minded folks to have fun with. But, if you are into full hookups, concrete pads to park on, bath houses/meeting pavillions, it is not for you. The camping is basically boondocking around a town of about 3000 permanent residents.

Nowadays, people go the first time out of curiosity.
The old timers like the climate, the desert, the price and the big shopping "fair" or whatever you want to call it. Anything and everything related to camping, rving, rock hounding, etc.
I am not taken with it. Too many people and it can be dusty and it can get cold.
But it's an interesting overnight stop to check out the flea market merchandise.

The RV show is the only reason I go, other than that is ugly, dry and in the middle of no where, bring your own food, stock up, restaurant lines are long..
