Go to CampingWorld.com and check out the black water chemicals. They will neuteralise the smells.

I use something with "Orange" in the name. It smells like oranges, and controls the odors well.

I have no idea what Calgon will do to the tanks, and probably nothing to control odors.

I do not treat my grey tank, unless in summer it gets hot and the water starts to smell a bit. Then a ounce of black water treatment will kill off some of the odor causing bacteria. Usually it is not needed below about 95F, or when in full hookup campgrounds (when the back tank valve is kept closed and grey tank valve kept open).

Also worthy to mention is keep the black tank valve closed until the tank is around 1/2 full, then drain. Otherwise the solids can build up in the tank, while the little liquid drains past it. Fill with water to around 3/4 full before draining, so that all the solids will come out of the tank quickly with all that water.

We use Oxy-Kem found at Walmart. Easy to use, just drop a pack in the toilet and add a tankful of water.

Valterra's Pure Power Blue (1 pouch), a cap of Calgon liquid and a few squirts of Dawn liquid dish soap and a toiletfill of water added after each dump.

OK, I currently treat the black tank with Walex Porta-Pak "during use". Nothing in the Gray tank.

The Calgon acts as a release agent, If I understand correctly.

Should I add a "cleaning agent" to the Grey tank ? If so, what ?

I've heard that both tanks, after dumpimg, should have a little water put back in them along with chemicals to keep the seals damp & help clean both tanks

Search on 'geo' for the black tank, never used anything in the gray.

We've been loosely using this method for many years and are happy with it. I make sure there are a few gallons of water in the black before starting any trip. Add in a capful or so of liquid calgon and same amount or so of detergent most of the time. Once in a while toss in some bleach too. More often than I might intend, forget to add any chemicals

I use H2O. Lots of it and my tanks never have any order.

Answers will vary depending on HOW you RV. Once a month? Every weekend? Snowbird, Full timer, etc. How much you use your coach and in what type of weather you RV in does make a difference on what you will use.

I use Campa-Chem (powerful odor control one NOT the green one)
This product actually breaks down waste and controls odors it is not just perfume. I tried some of the new ones and it added so much perfume to the coach I had to pull off the road and dump and flush it.

This product has been around for eons for marine and RV holding tanks. And walmart carries it. So when you stop for groceries etc you know you can pick up your rv holding tank supplies.

Gray tank gets a quart of a dollar orange cleaner every other dump.
