We have a new Toyota Tundra, short box, rated to tow 7200 pounds. We want to buy a small fifth wheel, but only a few have a GVWR under 6000 which is where we would prefer to stay. Many manufacturers have dropped their smallest 5ers, and many have slideouts which add weight. We are narrowing the search to Sportsmen and Flagstaff by Forest River, leaning towards the Flagstaff because it is the lightest. Can anyone comment on reliability and quality? Thanks.

Not familiar with the 2 mentioned, but you may want to look at Coachman - they too have shorter models - roomy and light.

After looking again the weight may be too much...but you can decide.

Sportsmen Ultra-lite, by K-Z INC. is cool. kz-rv.com. It's a 22" fiver w/queen bed and a queen bed slide, that goes out the back. Take a look see, you can't go wrong with sportsmen.

good luck

I have the K-Z 2253 22ft. (its really 24.5ft) ultra-lite without the slide out bedroom in the rear. Unloaded factory weight is 4361 pounds and loaded it comes in at 5294 pounds. K-Z made all the changes I requested without any hassles. K-Z has introduce the 2253 as a 2353 in the frontier style. You can get it with a small side slide out where the couch is located. I don't feel that the very little extra room between the couch and the dinette is worth the weight and potential hassle. They moved the fresh water tank over to the other side of the trailer to facilitate the slide. I personally was not impressed with the frontier model I saw at the show, but that's my take on it.

You might want to look at Fleetwood,(Terry, Prowler, Wilderness) all made by Fleetwood. WE have the Prowler Lynx 827-5s which has a dry weight of 5640 Lbs, agood size slide out, and Aluminum frame. We pull this unit with a Dodge 1500 with a 5.9 engine and a trailer tow rating of 7350 with no problem. all are 5ers.
