Hi all,
Just thought I would pass this on as a reminder to switch off the water pump when you leave your RV. We camped this past weekend with two other RVs and one of them was my parents new Class A. After grilling and eating dinner around the campfire it was time to clean up.
My mom, thinking that the water she was seeing dripping from the motorhome was from the A/C commented that it sure seemed like a lot of runoff. We ran over and first opened the basement doors...6 inches of standing water! Opened the coach door to find water running from under the kitchen sink, across the floor and down the stairs.
Switching the water pump on and off we traced the leak to be the water filter cannister. It had somehow come loose and water was pumping strait out under the sink.
We got them cleaned up and dried out but when I asked my dad what he wanted for a birthday present he responded with the usual, "I don't need anything." I then suggested a sump pump for the RV basement and his reply was that his smart*** son still needed a bar of soap for his mouth! shees...parents are no fun!
So remember to turn off your water pump if you're going to be away for any length of time.
Me, my true love, and the rugrats.

This is a good point.
I learned the hard way in Bakersfield Ca Thanksgiving weekend 2000. We were gone long hours visiting my mom who was ill and left the pump on. It was about thirty degrees at night.
We came back to find water running from under the trailer. A T-joint had cracked and pumped out the whole tank on the floor.
Luckily we were not quite level and it was a slow leak. Everything ran to the front left corner. I called the factory and someone answered. They had me take to a local Nash dealer and it was fixed while we had breakfast. The factory person said cut a hole in the underskin and run a hair drier in the whole to dry it out.
When we got home there was a package from the factory of special tape to reseal the underskin. No prob after that but it would have been much better to discover it quickly, which we didn't because I left the pump on.
Another thing I don't do anymore is "ever" trust the water presure at a park hook up. "Always use a pressure regulator".

Scott, didn't realize you had the same problem. My husband added an accumulator tank to the Fox--when it was 3 months old it blew a line that he had installed. All went under the trailer via the hole cut in the floor to bring the water from the tank into the system. That was a $2800 repair! We are better about shutting the pump off now, and Dave frequently checks the fittings under the sink.

I even go so far as to turn off the water at the camp site if we are going to be gone long. The pipes can still burst, pump or no pump.

We always turn off the water pump when we leave along with the hot water heater. If we have water at the site then the water is turned off at the faucet.
We had a water hose burst on one of our first RV trips. One of our camping neighbors noticed it and turned it off but not before we had a big sloshy mess in our campsite. We did not use a regulator as we didn't know any better. Now we always use a pressure regulator and turn off the water when we leave.
