Thanks to everyones great advice I have narrowed down a 9 day stay in June to either Pirateland or Ocean Lakes CG's in Myrtle Beach, SC. Seen on a few posts that the wind by the ocean is high. Would anyone who has stayed at either or both of these comment as to the wind, which they liked best and a good location to request please. Leaning slightly more toward Ocean Lakes but still waitinf on brochures and any feedback here first. We have never stayed at an ocean side CG or one of them mega parks before. Thanks.

We have stayed at Ocean Lakes twice in the past two years. We have been to Briarcliffe also. If you want the beach, then Ocean Lakes is a good choice. (no experience with Pirateland) They have opened up their new club house, and have many amenities including things for children. The have a pavilion at the beach. Prices are based on your site choice, the closer to the beach the higher the price. Some sites away from the beach are shaded. Ocean Lakes offers an Express Check-in, you make your reservation and pay your fee, they mail you the documents to drive right to your site. While Ocean Lakes is quite large, it is a very friendly place. If you are concerned about walking or being to far from the club house, they offer golf cart rentals (more than enough available). This place has everything. If I have a choice when I am going to Myrtle Beach, I am staying at Ocean Lakes.

We are also Ocean Lakes fans and have stayed there in every season. The wind can and does blow but not all the time. In the warmer weather it's a nice breeze and in the winter it's just there. If you are anti wind pick a site back from the beach but all the action is up at the beach. A golf cart is a must so you can cruise the beach front every evening with everyone else ( young and old). There is plenty to do for all ages. The snack bars actually serve good food and the ice cream stand is great. Go and have a ball.

We have stayed at Ocean Lakes twice - 1 camping - other time was in a rental cabin with friends.
We had a really windy day - managed to sink a Jetski - the nothing bothered at camp. We had the awning out and it survived ok.
We were in space 3151 - second row from the access road and 3rd block from the beach. From what I have read, there isnt much difference between the two places - but we have only been to one.

I have spent two vacations at Pirateland. We were there last summer. For your questions of wind conditions, I would suggest awning straps to secure the awning. But keep very close watch on the weather. Three people had awning damaged while we were there. It could happen at any of the campgrounds. You are I believe in Hurrican Country. Have fun but be careful.

Wind; yes you can have windy days but generally if you have awning straps you will be ok. Just pay attention to the conditions if the wind seems to be picking up. I have stayed at the beach as long as 3 weeks straight had never had a windy day. You are most likely to have breezy days. As far as a campground, either one, you will be happy at. Ocean Lakes lets you reserve a specific site and Pirateland lets you reserve an area. If you are planning on Ocean Lakes you had better call now. I bet most of the best sites for next summer all already gone. Our children are 11, 9 and 5 so we usually stay at Pirateland in the summer only because it is smaller and we can keep better track of our kids. Ocean Lakes has its own zip code, fire dept., 25 miles of paved roads. It is its own city. If you decide on Ocean Lakes request a site in the letter sections. The numbered sections are MUCH further from the beach and pool area. the 2000 section is close to the ocean but not 3000 and 4000.

I'm a Pirateland fan but that is because I've always stayed there. I've never stayed at Ocean Lakes but have walked thru there via the beach. Pirateland recently renovated their outdoor pool and the "Lazy River" feature is great. They also have all the amenities, store, laundry, snack bar, and more than enough golf carts. My kids have friends who return there so thats why we return there annually. You'll be hapy with either choice.

We camped at Pirateland for the very first time in April, enjoyed it so much that we have reservations for this upcoming April. The site we had was in the far corner that abuts the beach. Each site has 50amp service and a shelter with a picnic table. We rented a golf cart for the week that we thought came in very handy; the night time strolls along the beachfront, back and forth to the pools, store, snackbar, etc.
The "lazy-river" was my favorite past-time where I spent most of my afternoons floating in a tube and relaxing.
Pirateland, Lakewood, and Ocean Lakes Campgrounds are next to each other; so take a stroll along the 60 mile beach and you can view all the campgrounds.
