Question what is a good insurance to carry on a fifth wheel? My sister works for a "large" insurance company and she advised me not to insure under my automobile insurance company. She said that if you are travelling and your truck breaks down they will send a tow truck to bring in your tow vehicle, but leave your fifth wheel there. Seems a person is too valuable to leave alone with it and too much money to leave sitting by itself alongside a road some where. Please email me if you wish to provide a name, new to forum and don't want to break any rules.

UHMmmmmmm...... I am not aware of ANY auto insurance company that is going to come get my vehicle "if it breaks down." Now if I have emergency raod service through AAA or some other company, that is different.

My Insurance company also insures the liability portion of the 5er and only charges me extra for the collision portion. I am not real sure what the difference in cost would be if I was using two insurance comapnies.

Chick on the search as a few weeks ago insurance was a topic with good response. However, the past discussion did not mention two that float around when we ask questions of full timers we meet: Foremost and Alliance, but we do not have personal experience to pass on yet. Happy hunting.

I received quotes from a dozen or so companies. The best deal here in Louisiana was with Progressive. Full loss coverage, deminising deductables, roadside assistance etc for just over $400.00 yr.

I insure with Good Sam and they use GMAC. I have had one claim and it was handled quickly and fairly to my satisfaction.

At top right corner of this page of this page you can click on "Services" and at top of that page is offer RV Insurance. P.S. Other than using their sdite and being a GoodSam member, I am not affiliated with them.

NLowrance,

I have the same carriers as you!

Just got my Progressive policy and found that it included unlimited towing. Guess I'll be cancelling the Good Sam ERS.

Hi
I have a 35ft Alpenlite & Ford Truck, travel a lot and put on a lot of miles. The best coverage (full replacement value for 5 years) and price I have found is with RV Alliance out of WA State. Also don't rely on a Road Service unless they state that they cover your truck and trailer with no limit on cost(most minis cover you for a limited amount and you eat the rest, this can be a big surprise). I carry tow insurance on my truck policy (cheap) and also carry Camping World Road Service (Great People & Reliable) on the Truck & Trailer.

Here's why >>> When you have a problem on the road where you have to be towed it's usually "major" (because most RVers believe in good preventive maintenance) and don't forget you have your house behind you, So unless you want to set outside a dealership possibly all Weekend with a vehicle that doesn't run and no hookups you need first get the Tow Truck to take your rig to a nearby campground (get set up and relax), it's usually been a long day. Then the next morning (my problems always seem to happen after everything is closed on Saturday!!) start to look for repairs. Now You are in control, you can talk to the campground folks & find out the best & most reasonable mechanic to go to is (Very Important). But, ALL road services will only tow you once for the same problem, hence the second tow insurance (usually the one offered with your vehicle insurance). Use this one to tow your vehicle from the CG to where you found out about a "reasonable and responsible" mechanic not just some one that the tow truck driver recommends (not usually the best).

When you have a 5th wheel there are some things you have to take into consideration. First no "Toad" like a MH, Second you actually have two (2) vehicles but, I still prefer my Fiver

Happy Trails
