Our favorite is Clabough's. Friendly, reasonable prices, in the middle of things and the Trolley runs through. Many to chose from.

If you like the quiet side I would recommend Little River Campground, it is located in Townsend, which is only about 15 minute drive from Pigeon Forge. The nice thing is it is located right at the west entrance to the Smokey Nat Park, plus the town is very low keyed and not much traffic. You can take a hwy back to Pigeon Forge in just a few minutes and when you are ready to escape the crowd go back to the campground, which is located on the Little Pigeon River.

The only campground I've used in recent years was the KOA in Pigeon Forge. Avoid the KOA unless you like being packed in like sardines. I've heard of many other CG's that are very nice in the area or in the Gatlinburg area. I used to go to the Smoky mountain area to camp many times when my kids were growing up but often camped inside the park. This last time (at the KOA) was just a couple of years ago and I was amazed how much more crowded the whole area is now. It takes forever to get from Pigeon Forge to the park and we went on the Cades Cove auto loop that we used to enjoy so much and I think it took something like 3 hours of moving forward a half car length at a time to make it through. People would stop their car in the middle of the road and get out to take pictures of anything that moved...rabbits, deer... I could understand stopping for bears but deer are not exactly rare. As much as we enjoyed it in the past, we're not planning on going back again.

We camp in Pigeon Forge at least 4 times per year. We spent 9days during Christmas at Holly Haven. It is a very nice campground. While there we visited every single campground in the area. We made reservations for Good Friday at Fort Wear Campground. It is extremely nice with large roomy sites. They were the largest sites that we could find. Campground has lots of trees and will let you reserve a particular site. The staff were also extremely friendly, Good Sam discount also. They have actual river sites. Trolley Service runs at the campground, and on-site garbage pick-up. Overall we were very impressed. Pet-friendly. Sites are large enough that even an unexperienced rver shouldn't have any trouble backing in.

Another nice one is Plantation River.

Steer clear of Eagle's Nest, unfriendly owners, they choose your site, bathhouse in rough shape. They have many trashy permanent campers there.

Hope you enjoy the area as much as we do. Don't miss breakfast at The Apple Barn Restuarant.

River Plantation RV Park located between Sevierville and Pigeon Forge is one of the nicest in the area. They have the largest sites and their facilities have been updated recently. Two nice swimming pools, basketball court, playground. Their website is http://www.riverplantationrv.com/
