Our fall trip will be in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, starting Thursday, and returning Sunday. We will be staying at the Crazy Horse Campground. We were fortunate to get it, because there was only one, large site available to us. We haven't been in that area before, and we're really looking forward to it. Other than the obvious Dollywood, and other mass tourist attractions, designed for the entire day, what would be some local favorites; mills, museums, hacheries, flea markets, etc. Oh, and my wife's personal favorite; "Outlet Mall". We will also have our two year old grandaughter with us. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards

The entire city of Pigeon Forge is one huge outlet mall. It will take you days to get through them all. It will also take days to get through the traffic.
Make sure you have a meal at the Apple Barn in Pigeon Forge. The Burning Bush at traffic light 10 in Gatlinburg is also very good. The Knife Works in Sevierville is also worthwhile. Largest selection of knives I've ever seen.
Hiking! We've gotten almost 400 miles of the total 1200 miles of trails in the park done. My favorite is Alum Cave Bluff trail - but not with a 2 year old.
Drive up to Clingman's Dome in the GSMNP (Great Smoky Mountains National Park). Well worth the 30 minute drive. Take your little one down a couple of the "quiet nature trails" along the road.
Other than that, I can't help. G'burg and Pigeon Forge are both huge "tourist" attractions, and we don't go there for that. We spend our time on the trails and peaks of the Smokies. In fact, we're going back on 11/1.
Enjoy !!!!

We just returned from there. This was also our first time there. Friday and Saturdays are very busy traffic wise especially in Gatlinburg and especially at night. Gatlinburg has several area parking areas to use. Suggest that if you plan on going into Gatlinburg during the weekend, that you pick up an area map before hand to see where those parking lots are. During the week, traffic wasnt bad in either city. I believe when you are there that there is at least one fall festival going on. I think it will be at Dollywood. Also take the drive over the Smokies from Gatlinburg to Cherokee NC. The fall colors should be much better for you than they were for us. Lots if kids things in Pidgeon Forge. We like Alabama Grill for lunch in Pidgeon Forge. Definately go to Applewood Rest. or Applewood Grill in Pidgeon for supper. More that you can eat and good value.
There are coupon books and flyers at all campgrounds and locations thruout the area. I believe if you are going to Crazy Horse that you need to enter from I40 on rt 321 or something like that. You DONT WANT TO ENTER THRU PIDGEON FORGE ON RT66 AND RT441. Too much stop and go with the camper that way. You are much closer to Gatlinburg than you are to Pidgeon Forge I believe at Crazy Horse. You can also take a trolley I think from the camp ground to Gatlinburg. A very good idea if it is available. We enjoyed walking Gatlinburg during the week. Like I said the weekends are crazy though. Probably wouldnt like that with a 2yr old in tow.

Crazy Horse is a nice campground. There is no trolley from Crazy Horse. Use the directions on the web site (www.crazyhorsecampground.com) and you will avoid ALL of the traffic getting there.
Dollywood is great. The 2 yr old will have a blast. It gets tiring, so go after 3:30 on the first day and stay until the park closes. Visitors coming in after 3:30 get free passes for the next day. It breaks it up for everyone and you get to do alot more in the park.
Have a great time.

My thanks to everyone for their suggestions of where to go, and what to do on our trip. Sites like this really take the edge off trips to unfamiliar destinations. Best Regards
