New to RVing. Looking to buy a small trailer for my wife and 2 small children. She wants a toilet/shower. Was at a recent RV show and found the hybrid trailers appealing. I have a 99 GMC Jimmy 4.3L v6 4x4. I read a few posts concerning problems due to small wheel base on SUV's. Can anyone recommend a light trailer suitable to tow with my vehicle or would I be further ahead with a pop up trailer. Thanks in advance. Lee

Check out the scamps, They are small, But are well built, And you would could tow just about anywhere you would want and have the security of a hard side.

Lee10,

You might also check around to see if you can locate any small used Sunlines. They are lower profile and weights within your limits. The ONLY problem you may have is trying to locate a small used Sunline, seems like most people that have them hang onto them, or if they decide to seel them, they sell pretty fast. You can see what we currently tow with our Jummy but we have towed up to a Sunline "1950" with the proper hitch set-up without problems. Good Luck in your search.

When I bought my first RV an 18 foot Prowler, (was in weight limit), it was a nightmare. Struggled everywhere I went. Same with our friends. I had Olds Bravada, they had Blazer, both with V-8. We both ended up with 1/2 ton pickup trucks with super cabs.

My opinion is you will find yourself underpowered. Whatever your Jimmy is rated to tow, go no more than 75%. You still have to put the wife, kids, floaty toys and bikes in the vehicle.

Three tow vehicles and 4 RV's later, I wish I had bought a bigger tow vehicle first and then found the camper I wanted.

Hi
Try Bonait leisure products of Thedford mines Quebec Canada.
I owned a 1998 Mastercoach trailer built by Bonair, What a trailer they know what Quality is. If they would increase their production and ship to the states all of the American Rv makers would be in for a rude awakening like when Toyota clobbered the big three. I would highly recommend you look into this Canadian brand. I bought the best Gulfstream trailer and it does not compare in quality to the Bonair brand, I wish I could of gotten another Bonair product to suit my needs.
Good Luck up there in the great white north.
