Someone asked earlier in the week about RV sales.
This morning Monaco Coach announced that they were suspending production for 1 week and laying off 850 people.
"The challenges in our market increased throughout the first quarter, stated Monaco Coach Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kay Toolson."Difficult economic conditions and military conflict have pressured consumer confidence, and our retail dealer partners have become very cautious. These ciecumstances have created an unexpectedly tough sales environment, and their duration is hard to predict."
2004 models are out.Sounds like a good time to cut a sweet deal.

With the escalation in new MH prices, its no wonder sales are starting to slow. The local sales reps tell me they're coming off their best year ever. I went to a "show" put on by a local dealer a couple of months ago, and they told me they had sold 165 units in 3 days. Of course they could have varied from tent campers up to Class A MHs. A new Intrigue costs $70k more than a comparable 1999 coach. How much is added value, how much is corporate greed and how much is inflation? Anyway, My budget keeps me in the 1999 luxury marketplace.

It's a matter of timing, Monaco is laying off and cutting production because of their high backlog of unsold units, Country Coach and Newmar are adding workers and building more capacity. In a few months/years it could be reversed.
