Hi,

We've got reservations for Apache Family Campground. Never been there and was looking for some imput on the place. Read some of the past posts and became concerned when someone mentioned that the fishing pier attracted sharks.

Anyway, we've stayed at Ocean Lakes and Pirateland before but couldn't get reservations for our dates. So now were trying the north side and hoping to get some good info on the place.

Thanks,

Ron

I have not stayed there in a long time, but from reading others post I think I would use it only as a last resort.

Have you tried the other campgrounds, Myrtle Beach Travel Park, LakeWood or one of the state parks? Here is a link to a good list of them along with contact numbers..

Good Luck

Never stayed at Apache but I visit it often as my relatives have a permanent site there. It is an older campground that has not been kept up-to-date as far as improvements go. Most of the sites are back-ins with some just steps from the ocean. Each campground at Myrtle Beach has its loyal following and Apache does as well. Some folks would not stay anywhere else. They offer numerous activities and music on the pier. They have an ocean front restaurant. The pier is open to the public. Campground is always full. I do not think you will be miserable at Apache, just do not expect luxury.

Nice pier at Apache...during the season the beach patrol at MB is super...I've seen several shark alerts and have actually seen sharks in the surf...but, the beach patrol is on top this and information on sharks is communicated amongst the patrols...so they generally know ahead of time if there is a potential problem... Also, it is against the law to fish for sharks from the piers... and you can't swim near the pier...

We stayed at Apache about 10 years ago. I do not know what it like today. That is because after that original experience, I would not dare to go back to find out. May have change....May not. We don't care to find out.

I have camped at Myrtle Beach for about 20 years and I have stayed at Apache once, about 3 years ago. It is not very well maintained and I would not reccomend it. Try Myrtle Beach Travel Park if you want to stay on the North end. It is about 1/2 a mile from Apache and much, much nicer. If you call and they don't have any openings, don't give up, keep trying. I have always been able to get in, even on 4th of July after calling for several days. Good luck, i'll be there on the 4th!!

My family has stayed at the Myrtle Beach Travel Park for years. We have found it to be very clean and the staff very helpful. I highly recommend it. It's in a very convenient location too as there is a Wal-mart Super Store and a mall close by and plenty of restaurants and things to do on Route 17. We have walked on the beach and into Apache to look around. The campsites seem to be smaller and closer together. We love MB! Enjoy.

We are staying at Ocean Lakes this year but we stayed at Lakewood last year. Lakewood is nice (my second choice) and if you stay there it is next to Ocean Lakes (next door) if you want to walk over and see us in June.
