As you can see we are new to the game. I have noticed quite a few windshield covers on units when we have camped in the last few weeks. My dumb question is - I noticed some are inside the unit and some outside. How are they kept on so they are tight? Is there any special work that has to be done to have them installed? Does anyone have a preference for inside or outside?
I believe you can get them for the other windows than the windshield - are the other windows worth getting the shields for? I noted some say you can see through them from the inside but not from the outside - Does it matter if they are hung inside or outside for this?

Ok really dumb but before we spend the money have to ask the questions.

Thanks

Hi C.W.B.,

I've had both and prefer the outside type. IMO they reduce inside temperatures better and are easier to put on & take off. They allow you to see out but not in (during daylight ). The outside covers also protect the rubber moldings. The ones I have now came with side covers for the non dark-tint windows on the driver's side and door windows. (Front door). Do a web search for RV sun shades and you will see several manufacturers. I'm sure you will find satisfied users of all types, inside and out.

The inside cover can be transparent, or not. They require gluing velcro around window frame, but than are very easy to put-on and remove.
Didn't see transparent exterior shades and the solid one might do a good job on keeping the heat in/out, but make RV dark and are hassle to put-on.

I've had 7 mhs over 25 years, and most had w/s covers. The inside ones in Foretravels fastened with velcro, but the velcro didn't stay attached to the windshield very well.

I got a set of outside covers for my current mh from SunPro (800-789-5588) for $99 + $8.95 S&H. This was windshield, dr side window, door, pass side window and pr wiper covers. They come in ten colors and can fasten with snaps (std) or twist locks ($20 extra).

Some don't like either snaps or twist locks because they don't want to drill holes in the mh for them. They buy more expensive covers.

While I don't like drilling holes in my mh, I like the price and convenience. If you do it right, the snaps don't pull off or leak. You don't notice them unless you're looking for them.

If you order from SunPro, carefully confirm your order information, especially your name & address. English is a second language for them. They are nice folks and make a good product.

Civil:

Look at the sunscreen at this website www.rv-sunscreen.com. These require NO drilling. Click on the movie to see it work.

I also have the sunscreens from prompt rv screens "www.rv-sunscreen.com" . The only thing I have a problem with is I 5' 4" and my motor home is really tall. So I have to use a ladder on each end and a stool in the middle or it keeps falling off as I'm putting on. It's a real comedy show to watch a really short person put it on. I have to have my wife help me from the inside to hold the strap in place, but it does work great once it's up.

A hearty second to the prompt screens. Easy to install is not the word! Really easy!! We have just gone thru two days of 50mph winds here in WI, and the side window and windshield sreens from prompt never came off. Outside is far better than inside. Keep the heat out of the rv. I have tested the temps of my rv windows, those covered by the prompt external covers, and those uncovered. 10 to 15 deg difference as measured by a IR thermometer. Buy prompt, no drilling, no ladders. Pay a little more once, appreciate it for years to come. No, I don't have any financial interest in them, just appreciate a company producing a product that actually lives up to it's advertising.

Add me to the list of very happy customers with the Prompt Sunscreens. I still think it's the best accessory that I've purchased, and they are extremely pleasant to deal with.
We're "looking" at another motorhome, and the first thing I'm going to order is a sunscreen from Prompt.
