I am looking for suggestions for a nice campground near Hershey, PA. We will be travel thru and spending the day in Hershey on Thursday July 30th. We will just be spending one night in the area. I consider High Meadows Campground, but from what I could gather they have a two night minimum. Any suggestions for a nice campground would be greatly appreciated.

From Hershey we will be heading to Newburgh, NY via I-81 to I-84, so anything up I-81 not too far would be great too.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the information. Ole Trucker, do you have the name of that new KOA or a number for them? I will check them out.

Capt. Joe thanks for the information as well. I will give High Meadows a call and see if we can stay for just one night. That might be easiest. We will be staying at the Newburgh KOA. So thanks for the remarks about their facility. Did you enjoy the tour of NYC from the campground? We are going to do that on our first day there and then travel in the second day on our own and see a broadway show. Any recommendations on traveling or places to go would be appreciated.

Thanks again everyone.

Hi Rob,
Yes, we did enjoy the tour from the KOA into NYC. Really gave us an overview of the city that we wanted for our first time there. Did a lot of the usual first time things...Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, Empire State Building, Times Square. We rode by quite a few other places and the tour guide did a good job of helping us to keep our bearings. As I mentioned, we really enjoyed VISITING but I don't think there is a chance at all that I could ever live in such a place. We were there on a Friday and got to see it on a normal workday.
There are several options that the tour guide should point out as to going back into the city for continuing to explore on your own. We only took the one day but your plan would be fun also to return for more sightseeing and maybe dinner and a show....just take LOTS of money!!!!
Hope you have a great time and let us know on the board how it went.

If you have a friend who is a Thousand Trails member, they can make a reservation for you at the preserve near Hershey, in Campbelltown, PA. We are there now and it is one of the finest campgrounds in the Thousand Trails system.

Have fun!

Hi Rob,
Just back from a month on the road which included both areas you are going to visit.
We stayed overnight at the Highmeadow CG and except for the RAIN, really enjoyed our visit. Shuttle bus over to the Hershey compound was very convienient and nice. No problem with a single night stay.
Where are you staying in Newburgh? We were at the KOA and found it to be a VERY nice facility. It was one of the best if now the best of the 19 or so we stayed at on our trip. Nice trip into NYC from the CG and they had a real nice dog walking service which was run by a KOA foundation. Only charged a $5.00 donation to the foundation (I believe it is the one that provides day camps for kids with cancer) and they have a couple of real nice young folks come by and walk your dog whenever you want during the day. If I had known about the foundation at the time, I would have given them a larger donation. We were at Hershey early in our trip and went on north to Mass, Maine, NH and Vermont before heading to NY so we came in from the east to Newburgh. Lots of things to do and see in the area. Will return in a couple of years after doing our trips to cover the country and find the places we want to spend more time.
Enjoy your trip,

Thanks again Capt Joe! I have been planning that money thing. We are going to be gone for 17 days and spend two days in NYC, but think a third of our vacation money will be spend in NYC. Show ticket are so expensive and I know the tour is pricey.

Thanks

Will and Ina,
Was that the Pine Grove KOA that you are referring to?

itsasecret,
Do you think we could get into the Thousand Trails park for one night (Wednesday, July 30th)? We would need two campsites since we are traveling with another family. Let me know what you think.

Thanks
