No regular two ply toilet paper! If you want a messy cleanup job someday use that stuff. You might get away with 1 ply from regular stores but I would recommend the Thetford 1 ply you can get at Camping World or Wal-Mart. Sells for 1.99 or so for a 4 pack. They have improved the softness recently and it works great in a chemical toilet.

Many of us use Scott single ply. It is much less expensive than "RV" toilet paper, and it breaks up just fine. When I was dumping our tank every 4 days (ie - the paper didn't sit in there long) the TP was liquified. It breaks down just fine. I use a clear fitting at my dump valve, so I know the state of things as they come out. Now I dump once a week, and still no problem with the TP. Everybody we've talked to uses Scott single ply, without exception.

We use the Scott 1 ply too. If you want to use your brand many have recommended you put some toilet paper in a glass jar and fill it with water. Let it set a couple days and see if the paper breaks down. If it does then you should be just fine.
The trick is to make sure everyone who uses the toilet understands when they put paper down the hole to fill the darn toilet bowl up with water and flush. I have made it a rule in my camper...you have to use toilet paper fill the bowl. I also carry a garden hose and a toilet sprayer from Wal-mart in my storage just in case.

Test out the paper you use at home. The expensive RV toilet paper does not disolve any better than the cheaper brands. To Test place two sheets of paper in a large glass of water. Cover glass and shake hard. Dump out into your hand. If it balls or clumps up that is bad. If it is shredded to nothing that is great use it. I tried this with the free roll we got when buying and the Thetford was no better than the cheaper brands like MD or Angle Soft.

No do not use regular. Get the paper at Wal-Mart made especially for campers. Always flush the Stool with LOTS of water in your final dump also. If you don't flush it well you will have a stench. Been there done that.

James, as you can see you are going to get a variety of answers. If you do a search using the magnifying glass at the top of the page you'll find that much has been written about this subject. As for us we've been using the Camping World stuff but plan on switching to a standard single ply.

I have used Cottonelle, Scotts and just about any other single ply paper. If you flush with plenty of water and leave the dump valve closed until you leave the RV park, it should present no troubles. In the years I've been RVing (37), I have used regular paper almost ALL that time . I also have used Thedford deodorizer which seems to help break down the contents of the tank too.
