We use Scotts. Scotts even touts their compatiblity with RV tanks in their advertising. Whatever is used, filling the black tank as much as possible before dumping always helps.

Regular Toilet Paper doesn't dissolve as easily. I'd stick to the special camping paper. Like said in another thread. If you want a really mess use it.

Section 20 of the Frequently Asked Questions discusses the pros and cons of TP.

The best way to answer this question is to take a jar of water and the TP in question. Put a small amount of TP in the jar and swirl it around. If the TP breaks up and dissolves easily, no problem in the holding tank. If it does not, don't use it. Also, stay away from colored and scented TP. Bad for holding tanks.

I personally use the Scott 1-ply and have had no problems with it.

Hope this helps.

13 years of fifthwheeling 4 to 6 months at a time
I use 2 ply ( Hate that breakthrough feeling )
and my gal must have stock in the toilet paper company, she uses a roll in 2 days. As for brands I use the cheapest I can find ( my toilet paper bill and diesel bill are almost equal)
Never had a problem and the sensors work fine in the old 5er.

I hate to disagree with the "Pineapple Kid" (we love Kauai!) but my wife once bought 2 ply by accident (regular not Thetford's) and we used it in our 5th wheel. I suppose it makes a difference how the black water tank meets the toilet in different RV's but after period of time we had a mess to clean up. The paper jammed up in the pipe and tank. We always used a lot of water plus chemicals and still had the problem. I would still opt for 1 ply--use a bit more and lots of water.

two ply will NOT hurt the RV system PERIOD !!!!

For the past forty years I have purchased toilet paper based on two things........

#1... It must be 2-ply.... no exceptions !! I have taken out the old calculator many times and every time the one ply cost more than the two ply.. I'm a cheap scape on some things.

#2... It must be the cheapest price on the shelf.
I refuse to buy a name brand so I can keep up with the Joneses...

In all those years of RVing and camping, I have never had a problem with any toilet paper... ever !!

I use RID-X in my tank and I dump every three weeks or so...

I believe the reason that some people have problems with their tanks is because they don't put enough water in each time they flush.. I always use at least a 1/2 bowl of water to flush with... even if I only take a pee..
Just my 2cents

John

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

We have always used 2ply. Lots of water each flush and store unit with empty tanks. So far no problems (25 yrs.) - 2 units (both Newmar).

I just have to throw in my .02 with another option. We have a small wastebasket in a cabinet directly across from the toilet. We never worry about a thing because that's where all of our Charmin tissue goes!

Do the same as Newmarguy with my second unit. But I have the flush option on my American Star and on my first unit I used a wand down thru the toilet in order to keep things working. I use the Thedford 2 ply and figure that it is not that much and I also hate the breakthru feeling also!

If you put an aspirin in the tank it will disolve ant toilet paper you ever thought of using.
In fact, you can test this yourself. One aspirin in the tank will disolve tissue, Kleenex, even napkins (dinner) and diposable paper towels, the kind on a roll and the brown ones you get at a service station.

I have read somewhere it will even disolve a sock if it sits in the aspirin water for more than a day.
